Every page of My First ABC Book is packed with big, clear photographs of familiar ants, kite, oranges, tractor, zebra... Each letter, carved out of wood and photographed, occupies a central spot on the page. Ethnically diverse children populate the pages, holding balloons, wearing masks, playing with puppets. An ever growing alphabet runs along the bottom of every spread, with a funny little purple-striped winged critter hauling each subsequent letter out of a wagon to add to the sequence. Ideas for ABC games at the end of the book and a useful note to parents at the beginning also help distinguish this fine book from the sea of alphabet books. Parents should be aware, however, that the book only references lowercase letters, which may cause some confusion in the preschooler set. Children will want to return to My First ABC Book again and again, and will soon be reading by themselves! (Ages 2 to 6) --Emilie Coulter
Lots of examples for each letter of the alphabet illustrated with photos—a good introduction for children learning their ABC’s, but nothing really innovative about the book.
Great way to teach not just abc's but vocabulary. I like the newer abc books though better that have sensory with them were kids can "feel" the soft dog.
