Jo vuonna 1954 alkunsa saanut Roy of the Rovers on jonkinmoinen englantilaisen sarjakuvan instituutio, joka tuli myös suomalaisille lukijoille tutuksi yhtenä Buster -lehden jatkosarjoista. Sarjakuvassa seurataan jalkapalloilija Roy Racen ja hänen Melchester Rovers -joukkueensa vaiheita.

"The Best of Roy of the Rovers: The 1970s" (Titan Books, 2009) kerää yhteen 1970-luvun jälkimmäisellä puoliskolla ilmestyneitä tarinoita, jolloin Roy Racesta on tullut joukkueen pelaajamanageri. Se ei ole ihan helppo homma ja kausien varrelle ehtii kasaantua monenmoisia ongelmia, tyytymättömistä pelaajista englantilaista jalkapalloa piinanneisiin huligaaneihin.

Lähtökohdat huomioon ottaen tämä on aika viihdyttävää urheilusarjakuvaa! Lisäpisteitä täytyy antaa pelaajien ulkoasusta, sillä muodikkaiden geelitukkien sijasta kentällä nähdään kunnollisia takapiiskoja ja viiksiä.
