Very sympathetic portrait of a politician I was never that sure about. Goes into the minutiae of policy stuff. What really spoilt it for me was that I listened to the audio book and the narrator sounded like William Hague.

Got this from our book group's secret santa as it wouldn't have been a book on my list. However, I fond it quite a gripping read.A reminder that some things have changed for the good e.g. he was sent away to a residential school a long way from a loving home-at 4yrs old!Then at 12yrs old, his father died from a terrible industrial accident. The way in which he worked so hard studying and becoming a master of detail is amazing. It is also a portrayal of the evolution of the Labour party.
