I would give this book 3.75 stars if I could.

The author does an excellent job of describing the life experiences of those he calls "Nobles": those who simply can not thrive within the given memes of society, no matter how hard they try, because they have a deep, instictive yearning for something more. I could see myself and my own experiences, and it was both comforting and affirming to have this mirror.

However the book became harder to read the further into it I got, because, of necessity, Daniel had to start giving concrete examples of what happens when a Noble finally is ready to truly live that lifestyle -- but the narrative broke down into somewhat grandiose metaphors and generalities that I found less and less compelling.

It would have been more helpful if he had abandoned his fictional characters and interviewed actual Nobles about what it was like to fully engage their talents and visions, to encounter obstacles, gain allies and followers, and etc.

Bottom line: I'm glad I read as much of it as I have, and I'm keeping it on my shelf because it contains valuable wisdom and reminders -- but I don't know if I'll ever finish it.

I have spent many years going through life wondering what it is I should be doing. This book helped me clarify not only why I am the way I am but what I should be doing. It gave me the courage to finally leave the comforts of collecting a regular paycheck and go out on my own to help other small business people and organizations with missions I care about succeed. Tim Daniel continues to be a mentor to me and I admire his courage in writing this book and turning the world's current values upside down. I believe in him and his book so much, I've signed on as his publicist. If you are tired of mitigating bad circumstances and are chaffing at the bit of your current endeavor, I recommend you read this book. It won't be easy, but nothing worth it's salt ever is.
