Recommends it for: educators, poetry enthusiasts, parents and middle school students
Anything written by a Newfoundlander is great in my books, but I love how this is an introductory look at poetry, and I think it would be great for boys.
Pratt's classic poems are included in the "Graphic Poetry" series quite cleverly. While North American media has focused on "The Boy Problem" of boys and literacy, this action-packed book includes an invigorating poem matched with fast-paced illustrations. Edwin John Dove Pratt, who published as E. J. Pratt, was "the leading Canadian poet of his time." He was a Canadian poet originally from Newfoundland who lived most of his life in Toronto, Ontario. A three-time winner of the country's Governor General's Award for poetry, he has been called "the foremost Canadian poet of the first half of the century."
