The SIOP model for teaching English as a second language is very similar to the Communicative language approach that I got familiar with last semester. It basically involves focusing on meaningful communication and interaction during class while leaving grammar and vocabulary learning for home. I feel very strong about this model because I believe that communication should be at the center of language classes, but unfortunately that is most frequently not the case.
