This is a book about four people who have made a huge impact on the world because of their courage. Christopher Reeve became paralyzed after a dangerous fall off a horse but never gave up and continued to do what he love after his injury. Sacagawea is famous for helping guide Lewis and Clark on an entire expedition. Charles Lindbergh is a famous pilot who made the first solo transatlantic flight with no parachute or communication equipment. Ruby Bridges was the first and only black student in an all-white school at the age of six.

This is a great informative book as it focuses on four people not just one. It has many text features that help students understand the message of the text. Also, the photographs of each person are great and you can tell the time the photograph was taken.

This would be a great book to have students compare and contrast the differences among these four amazing people. It could also lead to students having to write about a time they or someone they know were courageous in their life.

One great book that can be connected to Ruby Bridges is “Separate is Never Equal” by Duncan Tonatiuh.
