Fellowship with God: Discovering Eternal Rewards Through True Christian Living and Faith in Jesus Christ (Grapevine Edition)

Rate this book
“A large part of Christian experience consists of exchanging something worse for something better, a blessed and delightful bargain indeed.” – A. W. Tozer

We sing God’s praises and we go to church every Sunday and we tithe and we read our Bibles and pray…
But why do we do it all?
Do we do it with the thoughtful understanding of the immensity of God, and the great privilege that God in His mercy has handed to us?
Do we do it with the trembling sense of awe that characterized so many followers of Christ?
In short, do we truly serve God?
A. W. Tozer calls us to examine our hearts and actions and re-orient them in the light of the Bible’s teachings about God and eternity. In Serving God, Tozer explains the true purpose of man, and advises us to wisely consider how we live out our brief time on a sin-cursed earth.
Life on this Earth is not simply something to be enjoyed, though enjoyment exists and is waiting to be grasped. It is not meant to be lived in comfort, though God offers comfort, and so much more, to those who are willing to seek it—and Him—aright.

Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").

Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.

A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.

This title from AW Tozer is available on Kindle. Though much of the content is excellent, the reader should know that the book is a composite of Tozer‘s essays from previously published books, rearranged here by an editor. If you want a very inexpensive way to read Tozer, these Kindle editions provide that. (I am assuming that these books are no longer under copyright.) However, I much prefer the original collections of essays, published by Christian Publications.

Thought Provoking

I enjoyed reading the book. He gives good questions and information that causes one to think. To consider how those who say we are believers to take an honest inventory whether or talk lines up with our walk.

Excellent!

Informative and subjective. Toast sets up the idea and follows through with answers and insight. Worth every moment of my time and he answered questions I could not find elsewhere.

Poorly Proofread, If At All.

I LOVE A.W. Tozer. I own a LOT of his books and always give them 5 Stars. However THIS particular book was not proofread. There are a ridiculous amount of capitalization mistakes. It’s almost like one of his teachings were “scanned to text” but nobody read it to make sure it was translated correctly. The errors caused me trouble in reading the text for after a while for that was all I could focus on. I would appeal to Caleb Sinclair to fix the errors and submit an update or find this title somewhere else.

Wonderful! Here is a quote:
"It is good for us to remember how strong He is--and how weak we are. I settled this a long time ago. I tell you I have talked to God more than I have talked to anyone else. I have reasoned more and had longer conferences with God than with any body else."

This reminds me of Robert Murray M'Cheyne who said "I am better acquainted with Christ than I am any man."

May I aspire to this!

With God

Brother Tozer speaks to my heart as if he were aware of this day and age. In this work he reminds us convincingly of God’s plan and desire to have fellowship with us. He has blessed my journey with that even more today.

First book by Tozer for me

I’m not a great reader but I did enjoy this book. Very thought provoking in many ways and gave me some peace with struggles I have in my thought life.

Fellowship

To have fellowship with God Almighty is to have complete joy and peace. Without him we wander aimlessly this side of heaven.
