Rate this book
The Brief Edition of The American Journey was created by rewriting and cutting to condense text, and by using fewer photographs, maps, and charts to illustrate the text. Volume II of The American Journey, introduces readers to the key features of American political, social, and economic history from the reconstruction, 1865-1877 to globalization, 1965-1995, the Reagan revolution and the second Cold War. Written in a clear, engaging style with a straightforward chronological organization, it provides readers with a solid framework for understanding the past. It gives prominent coverage to the West and South and highlights the importance of religion in American history. It traces the emergence of distinctively American ideals and the way the conflict between those ideals and reality has shaped our nation's development. It brings alive the crucial issues and events behind the continuing effort of Americans to live up to their ideals. Compelling stories, ample use of quotations, and excerpts from primary sources bring the past vividly alive. Volume II encompasses the complete American history experience from reconstruction, 1865-1877 to the shaping of a new America, 1965-1995 and the search for stability in a changing world since 1980.
