She wrote “The Glowing Rectangle” after finding herself and her husband often distracted by their phones and missing out on small but meaningful moments with their kids. Katie followed up with "The Plastic Rectangle" as her kids started asking more and more questions about money and credit cards.
Whether it's screen time and phones or money and credit cards, Katie hopes the common and relatable subjects her books cover can help other families learn, laugh and spend more time together.

The Plastic Rectangle: A Children's Book about Money by Katie Friedman
The Plastic Rectangle introduces the concept of money to children from an early age and teaches them about the value of money, saving, and hard work.
Generally, we go to the store with our plastic cards and show them to the shop owner and purchase anything like pizza, ice cream, or clothes, but we never think about where the money comes from.
This rhyming picture book teaches children that money comes from hard work, and money is important in life, but love and spending time with family are more important.
I clearly remember once I played doctor-doctor with Dhruvin, and I told him, Doctor, I am poor, I don't have money to pay your fee, and then he replied very innocently, No problem, you can pay by card.
So money and financial terms are complex to children, but this book perfectly explains the concept of money or plastic money and how money works in a fun and playful manner. This book has a beautiful message, and its simple text and happy illustrations will keep the children captivated throughout the book.

Recently I got my hands on the book "THE PLASTIC RECTANGLE". By looking at the cover photo of the book, readers would get to know that the Plastic rectangle means credit card or debit card. Parents could read this book to their kids so they can learn more about money, its usage, need, types, etc.
This book could be included in the school's syllabus to give basic financial knowledge to kids. It could be read aloud in class so more and more kids would learn about money.
Some money we spend, some we save whereas others we invest. After reading this book, kids will learn about the importance of money and they may start their saving habit now onwards. Basic financial education is very important for kids these days. I appreciate the author's efforts in this book. Looking forward to reading more such books by the author.

"The Plastic Rectangle: A Children's Book about Money" written by the author Katie Friedman and illustrated by Anna Koprantzelas is a must read.
This is a wonderful book about money that teaches kids how money comes in and goes out. To live, money is very important as it helps us to buy the things we need for our daily needs. By reading this book, kids will learn that money exists in different forms. Credit Cards are the most common form of money.
This is a well written book. Cover photo of the book is lovely. Language used in the book is simple and kids could understand it easily. This book is for kids of age 2-7 years. Parents could read it to them and explain more about money. A fun-filled educational read for kids.

Both books, The Glowing Rectangle and The Plastic Rectangle by Katie Friedman were so playfully written to explain common questions from toddlers to 7-10 year old children. We have enjoyed reading both of these books to our grandchildren and we love the questions that they come up with to understand money and the use of cell phones and computers! Job well done to the author and to the illustrator who made these two books so appealing for all ages!!

This rhyming picture book is a fun introduction to money that caters to a wide age range. The story covers where money comes from, what it’s used for, how it is spent and saved in language that is very easy for young children to understand. The author also gently inserts reality in that money sometimes causes hardship and stress. I appreciate the author emphasizing in the end that money can get you many things, but the love and time spent together with family is the most important thing.

I read this with my nephew (Almost 3) and the pictures were really well illustrated and it was easy to read. He definitely did not understand a thing about it but maybe it'll help him eventually!
