Rate this book
Hannah Kincaid, recovering from anorexia, is not pleased when sent to Martha’s Vineyard to stay with a great aunt whom she’s never met. Mrs. Chase lives in a crumbling manor on a large estate called Stewart’s Grove. She employs only two servants—a no-nonsense housekeeper, Mrs. Donohue, and her husband, the gardener.Soon Hannah experiences strange dreams about a Puritan girl and hears mysterious sounds at night in the 300-year-old mansion. Her depression fades as she meets her psychiatrist the eccentric Dr. Marsh and makes new friends, especially Greg, who seems as attracted to her as she is to him. Hannah becomes optimistic about her future and looks forward to sharing good times with her first boyfriend. Her brightening prospects are marred by increasingly intrusive and disturbing events. The dreams continue and appear to be connected with the Puritan roots of Stewart’s Grove. Nighttime fears invade her days. An unquiet soul beckons, drawing Hannah deeper and deeper into a horrifying past of witches and death. She determines to solve the mystery of the ghostly specter whatever the cost.
