April, 1471 - Ariana ... feisty, headstrong and the daughter of an earl, but when she loses her home and family her only chance of survival is to reach the elderly baron to whom her father has promised her. And the only chance she has of getting there alive is to trust Jeremy, once in her father’s employ.
Will she complete her journey safely? Or will she throw away her chance to avenge her father’s death and regain her titles and estates to be with the dashing Jeremy.
This was the first book that I ever read by Margaret Lake and I really really enjoyed it. The research and detail she puts into her stories is just amazing. She is a very talented writer.
Well-written and researched with much detail and lovely cover, however a bit tedious in detail with a predictable ending. Ariana, who is prideful, uppity and to be married for joint benefits, finds herself alone in the woods when her castle is seized. Jeremy, a groomsman, escapes the dungeon and finds her, promising to deliver her to her betroth, a nasty old baron. Two weeks of adventure residing with a shepherd and gypsies for a while results in an attraction between the two, however, Ariana is determined to abide by her father's contract. A bit long to the point of skimming it for essential details and somewhat frustrating at the inability of Ariana revolving in circles and clueless at times, but a lot of bang for the buck.
My Goodreads friends, how you have failed me! I can’t give this drivel, unmitigated predictable garbage of a book even one star. Ok, maybe a quarter since I couldn’t quibble with the spelling nor was the editing a total disaster but my heavens this book is the height of tripe. The Heroine is so stupid so useless as to be a recipient of a Darwin Award although she manages to escape death. I can say that I gritted my teeth rolled my eyes and skipped wholesale passages of this disaster of a story. I gave up on page 315. How this book received as many stars as it did absolutely mystified me. I give it 5 garbage 🗑 🗑🗑🗑🗑 cans
The author describes in great detail the events of all the characters. The story is very good! The ending could have been written in greater detail. My first time reading this author but I look forward to reading more of her books.
Ariana's father bethrothed her to a Baron who was old and creepy looking but being the dutiful daughter, she would do what her father said. But the Barons men attacked her father and when she saw it and ran. So read and see her adventure.
I was invested in this book from the beginning. The fear, violence and tyranny that people had to deal with in medieval times was intense. It keeps me reading.
Maybe I've read too many of these but the stories are all very similar. many debts occurred with other characters yet even the epilogue does not mention their resolution.
I enjoyed this book very much. And I am not a reader of Romance novels. I don't think this book is. It is a historical novel with a romance in it. The characterizations are excellent. Ms. Lake presents the main two characters and they are less than 100% likable. However as they overcome hardships and meet new challenges in a very short period of time, they grow-up. And they become much more likable to each other as well as to the reader. I give this book 5 stars because is is so good for a first book. And I look forward to more from this author and will purchase subsequent offerings.
259pgs, historical romance, set during the Wars of the Roses. The story commences shortly after the Battle of Barnet where Warwick The Kingmaker was killed and Edward IV has just taken his throne back from the mad king, Henry VI. This one decisive battle affected the lives and attitudes of Ariana and Jeremy.
Margaret Lake's debut novel is a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish. I can't rightfully award a debut novel five stars, but this kept me engrossed and wanting to know more about all the characters involved. Set during the War of the Roses, it made me want to know more about that time.
I cannot remember when I actually downloaded this ebook, but have just got around to reading 'Ariana's Pride'. Enjoyed very much and found it hard to put down once started. I hope to read more books by Margaret Lake.
