When a widowed father falls for a high-powered CEO, things between them are Almost True.

A chance encounter with Madeline Reynolds left me longing for a person I hardly knew. In fact, I didn’t even know her last name or who she was. Call me an idiot, but I had no idea she was a big deal CEO or record-breaking businesswoman. Maybe that came from living the widowed single-dad life and working myself into the ground. She’d hooked my ruined heart, and even when I find out who she is and know she’s out of my league, I can’t help wanting her. I can’t help doing anything she asks me, even if it makes me a fool. I take the job landscaping her vacation home even though it’ll put me in her path constantly when I know I should stay away. I can’t help hoping that when she leaves—and make no mistake, she will—that she’ll at least remember me. I know I’ll never forget her.

Almost True is book five in the Back to Silver Ridge Series. It's a dual POV closed-door romance with sweet heat and a happy ending.

This story had everything, the perfect meet-cute, heartfelt conversations, swoony moments, small-town romance, humor, and the most delightful epilogue! Aidan is a single dad full of heart. Maddie is a girl boss who's realizing she wants more than to be a businesswoman. This book brings the feels and all the side characters are great, especially Luca, Aiden's son. I loved reading about Aiden and Maddie and how they found their voices and happiness.

Dual POV, lots of hot kisses, no foul language, no sex scenes, and clean romance.

This book was so good! It made me cry more than once! Such a touching story about two people healing and how the love they found with each other helped make them whole in a new way. The series doesn’t need to be read in order to be enjoyed, but I do recommend reading Almost Home before this since it’s referenced multiple times. Note this is fade to black.

Mmm until about the 60% mark this was a solid 5 star read for me.

Maddie and Aiden have a chance meeting one night and the two bond very deeply under the safety net of anonymity. They part ways but remain in each others thoughts until they're able to meet again with Maddie returning to Silver Ridge. With her return both Aidan and Maddie come to terms with the details they were able to leave out when they first met. Maddie is a wildly successful business woman and Aiden is a widower with a son.

Initially Aiden distances himself from Maddie because he doesn't feel good enough for her, and Maddie is puzzled about how to bridge that gap. In amongst this Aidan is dealing with how to be honest with the in-laws that he doesn't want to run their business and be a good father to his son. Maddie is also dealing with some baggage from a stalker who had held her at gunpoint (occurred prior to this book) and how to pick up her life again.

It was a really gentle read. Despite the premise this wasn't an angsty read. It was two people who really liked each other trying to see if their lives could fit together. There was a lot of communication and the chemistry was believable. There was also a nice progression in their relationship that was easy to root for.

Like I said for the first half or so this was a solid 5 star read. But then the latter half of the book felt...boring. It just stalled somehow in pacing and momentum and it started feeling super repetitious. This still justified 4 stars until the ridiculous late stage conflict.

Keep in mind one of the praises I gave this book was the consistent communication between Aidan and Maddie. They had a whole relationship built on communicating, which was really refreshing to read. Part of this was Aiden knowing that Maddie was only in Silver Ridge short term. They both knew she would be returning to New York and the job that she loved. Colour me shocked, when Maddie has to return suddenly all of that earned communication goes out the window, in a way that didn't feel sincere to the characters I had been reading all along. Maddie is expecting Aiden to ask her to stay (for whatever reason) and Aiden is respecting Maddie's choice to leave, since she hasn't given any indication she's wavering in that decision.

No discussions are had. Maddie leaves, and they talk back and forth for a little bit until Maddie cuts off communication because it's too hard. This was the point where I went from feeling a little bored to started to actively hate the story. It just felt sooo forced, for the sake of adding tension. And of course when it feels inorganic to the story, that in itself removes any ounce of tension since it feels like we're just biding time until the characters reunite. It does get worse. Maddie of course realises that she misses Aiden and that maybe she can build a new life in Silver Ridge. Does she then pick up the phone, or even go directly to Aiden? No. No she does not. She moves back to Silver Ridge then invites Aiden to a party where she has a surprise announcement that she's moving back. Why throw a party? I ask, absolutely baffled. Your primary focus is reuniting with a man you've already sort of cut off at the knees. In what universe does it make sense to mask your intentions even further by inviting him and your dozens of other close friends to a party to make an announcement. You're not the president and this isn't state business. A phone call would have sufficed. Or, you know, a private meeting between the two of you. As you can tell I was incredibly frustrated. This just took me completely out of the story and I couldn't do better than 3 stars.

So super strong beginning but poor ending.

I'm on the fence about reading more in the series but I may dive back in once I've moved past this one.

4/5⭐️

”I wanted to be all of myself and to know all of someone else.”

SINGLE DAD TROPE ALERT! If it’s not obvious, this is one my favourite tropes ever and this was such an enjoyable read. I loved both Maddie and Aidan and they were just so cute together. Maddie’s interactions with Luca were so precious and I wish there had been a little bit more of those - I really wanted a convo between Luca and Maddie regarding her relationship with Aidan. Sigh.

What I really loved about this was that both Aidan and Maddie were open minded and knew their time together would be short and yet did not shy away from each other due to the prospect of a future heartbreak. In the previous books, none of the couples wanted to commit until they were 100% sure they were in for the long haul and as much as I loved that, it also kept creating barriers for them to enjoy the time they had together. And then these two took the other route and made sure to enjoy all the time they had together because they were so sure it would be short lived (don’t worry, this doesn’t mean there isn’t a happy ending - there is a grand big happy ending). Obviously it also led to some miscommunication issues since both clearly loved each other, but hey, that’s kind of expected in romance novels.

Another element that I absolutely adored not only in this book, but in the entire series itself is the friendship circle with Calla, Sarah, Quinn, Sadie, Dahlia and now Maddie. It’s one of the most heartwarming parts of all the books - just to see them support each other and be such good friends.

Unfortunately, since I did not like John, I doubt I will be reading the next book, and I don’t know if this is the end of this series. I might go read the previous series related to Silver Ridge, as I learnt of its existence only after I started this series.

All in all, this has been such a great series that kept me company during some of my darkest days and I’m very much grateful for the author for writing such beautiful books that made me smile.

Aidan: Widowed father, devoted son-in-law, busy keeping the family business and his own landscape architect business afloat. Strong, caring, and handsome “in just a bone deep ‘this is how we keep the human race alive’ kind of way.

Maddie: Nate’s sister from “Holding on to Hope” - Accomplished, wealthy, philanthropist, CEO also completely immersed in her business. She meets Aidan one evening when she took a break from work because she promised her best friend she would. They spend a couple of hours talking and end up with a parting kiss that neither one of them expected, or could forget for the next year and a half…

He’s a local in Silver Ridge, her work keeps her so busy she’s only in town briefly, until 18 months later when she begins a sabbatical she plans to spend in Silver Ridge. She’s recently bought a vacation home there and maybe she’ll run in to Aidan again?

So much to love about Almost True. The characters are artfully developed and so likeable. It’s one of those books that when you’re done with the book you miss them. The whole complicated thing of strong ties to different parts of the country, family and their mutual attraction to one another, with a nice side of the other characters of Silver Ridge that we’ve been previously introduced to (and love!) are all woven into their story.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. It is one of those that hovered between a 4 or 5 rating, but I decided it deserved a five because of the unique way it was written and the wonderful character development. By unique, I am referring to the way the author covered some of the significant occurrences in the book, using dialogue or memory to touch on some things that happened in Madeline’s recent past.
I must confess that I absolutely love books in a series where the characters intermingle in the same town and the reader gets to love each couple as their relationship develops. I can’t wait to come back to Silver Ridge and see what happens in the next book. Aiden and Madeline are both people that I would want for my best friends. Their love is so pure, but not without challenges. All the characters they interact with are people I have also come to love.
I only recently discovered Claire Cain and have placed her on my list of favorite authors. She has a writing style that just pulls you in and makes you want more. I also love the way she handles romantic scenes – giving you just enough information to let you know what happened without the detailed description I don’t enjoy. That’s my favorite type of romance.

This is the first of the series that I’ve read, and while I could tell there were some stories I had missed, I understood what was happening easily. Aiden was such a great hero, he felt himself broken and barely hanging on after the unexpected death of his wife 7 years earlier and raising his son. Others saw his compassion, strength through adversity and a very talented man. Maddie was the ultimate career woman, CEO of her own company, author and was energized by working and succeeding, until a stalker took over her existence, frightening her and threatening her life. At that point she knew she wanted to make some changes and was sure good things would happen in the little town of Silverton. This is a relationship with a definite end date when she had to go back to her real life in NYC, but they both thought any relationship at all would be worth it. There are more than two hearts on the line as Aidens son Luca plays an important role and he crawls right into Maddie’s heart.
There’s some mild swearing and it’s definitely a closed door situation, with no explicit scenes. I received this as an ARC.

Almost True by Claire Cain is exactly what you hope and want in a small town romance!

Aiden lives in Silver Ridge and one night he meets the intriguing and beautiful Maddie. Little does he know that she is a very wealthy CEO, and little does she know that he is a widowed single dad whose roots run very deep in Silver Ridge. Ending this enchanting night with a kiss and no way to contact each other, they both spend the next year and a half thinking of the other one. Then one day, after Maddie has a traumatic experience that almost ends in her life ending, they run in to each other, literally, as Madeline rushes back to Silver Ridge to heal. Over the summer, Aiden and Maddie learn about each other while trying to come to terms with their feelings. Maddie must leave back to her CEO job at the end of the summer, which leaves Aiden heartbroken. The ending to their story is exactly what you hope it would be, they both get their happily ever afters, and so much more!

Claire did a fantastic job revisiting the town of Silver Ridge, with all the characters we love. I also very much appreciate that at the end of the book, Claire allows you to see in to their future, while giving you a taste of the next story to come from Silver Ridge!

I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my review!

This was a well written love story about second chances getting over heart break and learning to trust. Having not read the author before I wasn't disappointed its part of the Silver Ridge small town romance series but this book was easy to pick up and can be read as a standalone now too are main characters Aiden oh he brings all the feels he's so sweet and just a little unsure of himself especially when it comes to his love for Maddie someone he considers way out of a widowed fathers league but one simple meeting in a bar is the beginning of there love story but not the end 18 months later there truths will be revealed. Maddie is CEO of a company worth millions and adored and fawned over she's not what you would expect she's kind and sweet but who she is and what others expect of her have brought stress, and a stalker she just wants someone to see her not her money and Silver Ridge is her safe haven when life gets messy its also were she meets the one person who changes everything for her. This book brings the feels all the side characters are great especially Luca, Aiden's son there romance has some issues but in the end it all works out and now I need to read the other books in the series.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I have loved the Back to Silver Ridge series and was excited for Almost True.

I loved the chance encounter/first date meet-cute. This was such a unique idea and I loved that the whole meet-cute was descrribed, it wasn’t just a sentence or two. It really made me love and root for the characters more.

I also loved seeing so many of the characters from Claire’s books. Many from the Back to Silver Ridge series as well as others from her Silver Ridge Resort series and Soliders Overseas Romance series. I am ashamed to say that it took me way to long to make the connection of who Maddie’s brother was.

If you are looking for a fantastic closed door romance book with a widowed father, an extremely intelligent and lovable preteen, character growth and a whole lot of swoonworthy moments, you are going to love this book. You don’t need to read the rest of the series to enjoy this book, but I am sure you aren’t going to be able to leave these characters without wanting to read more.

This book is a deeply emotional ride about two people who just want to be seen for themselves. They hide their identities when they first meet & then have to figure out how to make their relationship work when their real lives are exposed later on.

Claire always writes swoony men, and Aidan Wallace is a very capable single dad full of heart and I'm personally in love with him. He feels responsible for everybody's happiness but his own, but when Maddie comes along he decides to do something for himself for a change. Maddie is a girl boss who's starting to realize she wants more than a company to her name & that the relentless grind of business isn't as satisfying as it once was. Their relationship isn't easy but boy is it punctuated by heartfelt conversations, swoony moments, and the most delightful epilogue!

This is such a wonderful story, I loved it. Aiden and Maddie had a meet cute that had them thinking of each other for a long time after the 2 hour meet. Maddie is a well-known CEO of her company, Aiden is a landscape architect in small town Silver Ridge who is also a single dad. There is so much chemistry between the two of them. So many swoon worthy moments. Add in a super smart pre-teen boy Luca and it makes for a great story. This story is so well written and draws you in wanting to see what is going to happen next. I enjoyed reading about the side characters as well, the towns people, the love and friendship. I enjoyed this book so much, such a great addition to the series even though you don’t have to have read them to love this just the same.

This was such a well written love story about loving again and second chance. The story of Maddie and Aiden was so good and you couldn't help but want more from their story and even some of the characters outside of their story. Although Claire Cain is a pretty new to me author, I love her writing and story lines. She does an excellent job with detailing her characters and the settings and for me that makes a big difference in reading a book.
Although this was the only book of the series I have read I found it easy to follow but now I find myself wanting to read the rest of this series and learn about the rest of some of the other characters. I love finding a good series of books to follow like this one. This was a great read for me!

Loved the characters in this book. Maddie and Aidan meet briefly one night for sweet conversation and the start of something that could never be. Eighteen months later, they meet again, and so their story truly begins. There is the typical socioeconomic disparity in their stations, there is geographic distance, there is even the oddity of widowhood and tragedy. But these characters are so genuinely kind and caring and hopeful and so much more that I ached for their pain. The author has created a world in Silver Ridge that I want to visit. She’s crafted characters with stories begging to be told. Loved this book. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I have read many books by Claire. Each book is hard to put down. Almost true was just what I was expecting. I loved the way the characters were able to help each other and fall in love. Aiden son was just wonderful, sometimes I want to say he was my favorite. I mean who doesn't love a sweet kid. Maddie just needs to find love with some one that doesn't see her for her money. Maddie was so sweet and has to overcome a terrible incident that happened. They each have baggage that needs taken care of, and they are able to help each other. I definitely recommend reading this story, you will not be disappointed. Single dad who finds love.

Another solidly sweet and delightful Silver Ridge story, this time with a character we've known since the OCONUS Bonus series. There is some unexpected conflict with family that felt real and kind in a way you don't often read in fiction. I loved all the dependable beats of taking care of a loved one while sick, being slowly able to trust, and recovering from tragedy. Silver Ridge is growing as a town as this series grows, and it's fun to see events and locations established in other books. Can be read as a stand alone, even more fun as part of the series.

Almost True

Maddie and Aiden had met when each were going through a rough spell but neither could forget about the other. Aiden didn’t know Maddie was a powerful CEO in the tech field who was being stalked and Maddie didn’t know Aiden was a widower and single dad. This book has some foul language. My opinion is that type of language does not enhance the story but takes away from the emotional depth of the characters. Having said that, the storyline is good and well told with well developed characters. Thus, a good review.

Maddie heads to Silver Ridge for a vacation but works the entire time. In a bar, she meets Aiden, a widower from Silver Ridge. They spend hours talking in the bar. They don’t exchange phone numbers or last names, and Maddie goes back home.
Maddie is a very wealthy CEO and comes back to town for the summer.
Aiden owns a landscaping company and has a son.
Maddie and Aiden accidentally run into each other. Because Maddie is only in Silver Ridge for the summer, they have to figure out how to navigate what they each want.
Sweet 2nd chance love story.

Change in Priorities

So Madeline had quite the introduction to Silverton when she came to evade a stalker and met Aidan hours before her return to her high-pressure CEO job in NY. Aidan had been spreading himself too thin between single fatherhood, his own landscaping business, and working with his in-laws. The beloved family and friends dynamics are still going strong in Silverton. Aidan's son Luca is hilarious. Altho Aidan and Maddie's relationship can be frustrating at times with its ups and downs, the ending is absolutely is beautiful and makes up for it.

Almost True is a clean, heartwarming, inspirational romance. Ms. Cain writes outstanding books that simply sweep me into her world! I love Maddie, Aidan, Luca (Aiden's super intelligent son), Maddie and Aidan's meet cute, the townspeople and the town of Silver Ridge. This well written book works as a stand alone and is even better if you met Maddie in Almost Home. I had to forget my to do list and just keep reading. I could not put the book down!

Claire Cain has done it again!
I so enjoyed reading this clean romance. It has everything I want in a book...friends, family, love and great interactions.
The characters are engaging & relatable and the story flowed well with realism.
Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading in book order to experience the true fullness of the series.
I received an ARC courtesy of the author and this is my voluntary review.

Aiden and Maddie’s love story takes an unusual path, keeping the reader entertained and guessing where it’s headed. Both are strong people, but need their supportive friends encouraging them so they won’t lose their chance with each other. This keeps the story moving, not letting it stall and grasp for unneeded words just to fill a page. This is very enjoyable read I received as an ARC and I have given my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next book in the series (lots of fun hints in this one).

If you haven't read book 4 (Almost Home) recently you might want to reread it as this book refers back to / builds on events in that more than other connections in the series.

W.O.W.
This read has every emotion inside.
Aiden and Maddie start out meeting at a bar- which is local for Aiden-not for Maddie.
From here it’s possible to see how book is going to play out - just NOT THE WAY READER THINKS.
I love this read and am sure YOU will too.

This is a great romance novel! It doesn't have the typical romantic circumstances which makes it unique. It's an easy read. I'll definitely be reading other books by this author.
