More Tellable Cracker Tales

Drawn from Florida history, folklore, and fiction, this collection of stories tailor-made for telling will entertain, inspire, and astound readers and listeners of all ages. Cracker Jack is up to his old putting one over on his Yankee schoolteacher; confounding a census taker; and convincing a befuddled farmer that its not Saturday but Sunday (and if the preacher finds him working on a Sunday, well, there'll be you-know-what to pay!). Sheriff "Pogy" Bill Collins used to be the worst lawbreaker in Okeechobee City. Then he promised Judge Hancock that hed walk the straight and narrow in return for his release from jail. Pogy Bill kept his promise to the judge ... and then some. In a place called Dogbone, its really not that unusual to see a glow-in-the-dark man running naked after a driverless truck with two barking dogs in pursuit. It even made Ed Grady an honest-to-goodness churchgoer.

Another fun book that I picked up at the local library. While they are "tales", old tales about the Florida area, they are short stories and at the end, directions on what age group to tell these stories to, and about how long it should last. Some suggestions also on how you could change the story up to different audiences. Many of the stories were for children. At only about 100 pages, it took me just an hour or so to read. It is a book to compliment the first one, Tellable Cracker Tales. While I don't know that I'd be a good person to be telling "cracker" stories, particularly without an accent, I did enjoy the whole thought of being a storyteller and how much I would enjoy this!

Sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between fact and fiction within this collection of tales and at other times it is clearly visible. It is a semi-enjoyable hodgepodge of stories..

Great short stories set in native Florida. I love folktales! We need to continue to pass them along!
