The book starts out talking about how difficult things were for Washington's army which lacked proper food and clothing, some men having to wrap rags around their feet. It then goes into the general military situation facing the Revolutionary Army at the time, and how they needed more men and more supplies, both.

From there it talks about specific battles that were fought and how the war began to turn against the British, ending with their defeat. A decent book for young people.
