Laurent De Brunhoff has kept the spirit of Babar and his family alive for over 50 years. Babar was created by Laurent's mother as a bedtime story, and was first illustrated by Laurent's father, Jean de Brunhoff.
After his father's death, Laurent continued to create over 30 Babar stories.
Laurent de Brunhoff lived in Connecticut with his wife, writer Phyllis Rose.
The elephants will visit the neighbours on the neighbouring island. This island is inhabited by a splendid and dense fauna and flora. It is inspired by the eponymous Gironde island where the de Brunhoff's used to spend their holidays. Elephants are welcomed like a president on a presidential visit abroad. They enjoy the "places of honour" at the ostrich race and the best protection when fishing. Nevertheless, the fishing trip goes badly. The elephants eventually return home and offer a right of visit to their hosts of the day. Illustrations, as always, splendid and detailed which will make children travel.
This was one of my absolute favorite books when I was a child. I read it until it fell to pieces. I could lose myself in the pictures, and delighted in the attention to detail with which they accompanied the text.
