Fame, fortune and true love...Emma McDaniel thought she had it all.
But stardom came at great personal cost—a painful divorce from her childhood sweetheart and the shattering of all her dreams. Fleeing the press and her own despair, Emma heads to Scotland for the role of a lifetime. There, brooding historian Dr. Jared Butler will help her become the legendary Lady Aislinn...unless his surly attitude tempts Emma to slay him with the lady's sword first.
Scarred by a disastrous marriage of his own, Jared has little use for women—and none at all for pampered starlets. But as the two lose themselves in the lore of the past, Jared is stunned to find in Emma a kindred spirit. Will he dare to leave the safety of his history books and risk his heart with a woman of flesh and blood?
I love the symbolism of this title, The Wedding Dress. Please don't ask me what it is; I'm not one for spoilers...but it follows the same idea as the first two books in this series, Picket Fence, and The Hope Chest. And while this is the third in a series, it stands beautifully on its own. My recommendation, though, is to read all three. Reading them in order brings added richness and depth to this book.
I loved Emma and Jared's story. It caught my curiosity quickly, and I didn't want to put the book down. I found myself sneaking a chapter every chance I could. You would think I would learn by now that when I sit down to read a book by Ms. Cates, I should be prepared for a page-turner. So, maybe I missed a load of laundry or two. Sometimes, the laundry has to take a back seat to a hauntingly beautiful love story.
This book really really has nothing to do with a wedding dress so the Title is completely misleading. There is an old wedding dress in a trunk, apparently discussed more in the previous two books of this series, but this book has nothing to do with it. However, once the two main characters get over the 'hate-at-first-site' issue, and they get to know each other, it's a pretty good story. A bit long, over 400 pages. Would probably make a good Hallmark movie if they got the right hunky Scottish guy to play Jared.
Strong characters, strong storyline, evil paparazzi.....and love abounds...familial, parental, and romantic. Plus a castle, the sea, and glamour from Hollywood, so much to love.
Quick easy read, usually not my type, but I was in a rut with reading and thought I’d give it a go. Deceiving title though-a wedding dress had very little to do with the plot of the book, so I marked it down from a 4 star to a 3.
This book is what is wrong with the world. The writing was alright, but the story was rubbish. As I read this, all of these comments and genres came to mind (a modern Harlaquin romance? Heaving bosoms and the like), the sort of thing a writer hates themselves for in a movie before they meet a muse who inspires them to write another masterpiece after their 60 year slump, during which they had 59 crap books published.
Maybe my displeasure comes from my incensed mind. The story could have been silly fluff, alright for a quick silly read, but it wasn't. Too silly, too unrealistic, too heaving bosom. It made me wonder at the sort of people who read this type of book, there must be some sort of audience, and that is why this is what's wrong with the world. Complete waste of time, no interesting thing to learn or happy feel goods. Kind of like that Britney (I don't really know how to spell her name) Spears movie, where you just sit there, stunned, with an emptiness that makes you wish you could rewind your brain. Except it wasn't as bad as that. Could have been better. (probably why I do not like adult fiction)
I did not like Jared and I wasn’t interested in him at all. I thought he was unprofessional and judgmental. Emma, on the other hand, was interesting. Alas, I couldn’t abide Jared so I stopped reading The Wedding Dress. I do plan on reading another book by Kimberly Cates as I did like her writing style.
The story was okay, but I was really disappointed as I fell in love with Drew in The Gazebo and had such high hopes for the relationship between him and Emma. The fact that this relationship ended in divorce was something I fou really depressing. Not what I was looking for in a romance novel.
Excellent romance. It is actually part of a series (which I did not realize) and so now I have to go back and read the first two books. I hate reading series out of order!
