Rate this book
Many of us thirst for a meaningful spiritual life. We may even begin a spiritual journey, yet before we are very far along, we discover we need help.
Is the living, compassionate God revealed in scripture in a way that offers guidance and comfort to us in our contemporary lives? Norvene Vest says a resounding "Yes!"
Using the classic spiritual practice of lectio divina or "divine reading" in the context of small groups, she shows how this devotional and prayerful reading of the scriptures leads us to a deeper understanding of and relationship with God.

This is a good book to read for an in depth introduction to the practice of spiritual reading, lectio divina. Norvene Vest walks the reader step by step through this method of praying the Christian scriptures and provides an example of the group practice of this throughout the book. Reading an example of how the group should flow was helpful in understanding the process better. I also appreciated the chapter on praying our lives as it applies the lectio divina process to reflection and action in our lives. Overall, I have a better knowledge of lectio divina and the importance of a spiritual practice that provides a balance of word and silence, reflection and action, and engaging the spiritual and physical worlds.
