Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
Murray treats the Greeks more historically and less as a unified aesthetic ideal than had earlier nineteenth century classicists. A good overview that has aged well.
Eminently readable, especially for a book written over 120 years ago. Packed with information and light reading (as light as Greek lit can be). As a non expert , not sure whether the info are outdated. But stuff like homer was probably not a single poet and that he was blind, those things still hold true.
