This book is a bit overwhelming as the author focuses on everything a backyard can be-dining, kitchen, sports, garden, child's playground... On the positive side, Bridget Biscotti Bradley takes you through a step by step process to evaluate your yard and your goals. Like many others, this book focuses primarily on California and other southern locations where outdoor spaces can be used year around. This means that she doesn't address the winter issues seen by northern residents. This is also not a book for those on a tight budget or those with limited time to maintain their yard. Despite all these distractions, the book is sure to have some interesting ideas for everyone's yard.

This book is exactly what I was looking for as a new homeowner. I wasn't looking for a how-to book, or a book with detailed discussions about this material vs that material. I was looking for an idea book, a dreaming book. This book has huge pictures and just the right amount of explanation and advice to supplement the illustrations. I learned a lot but I wasn't overwhelmed. Now I am so excited to start planning out my backyard renovation!

This book was written in 2009. Some of the images are already outdated, but the concept and designs are very much still in style and are timeless. It shows you how to bring the Indoors out and how to have an area for everyone in the family as well as having many functions.

this one has a lot of great inspiration for my back yard. i'm noting it here so that when we actually get around to WORKING on our back yard I can remember it and check it out again.
