As always, this series shocks me to see when it does from absolutely ridiculous humour to seomthing serious and pretty heart-touching...how can Sorachi do it and still have the series make perfect sense?! So, in this volume, we actually learn a bit more about the lives of some supporting characters...a couple of the Shinsengumi guys, which is left with a to-be-continued for the next volume.

The samurai didn't stand a chance. First, the aliens invaded Japan. Next, they took all the jobs. And then they confiscated everyone's swords. So what does a hotheaded former samurai like Sakata "Gin" Gintoki do to make ends meet? Take any odd job that comes his way, even if it means losing his dignity.

This is much of filler volume. But i gave it 4 stars because it ended with okita's siblings arc. Touching story.
