A charming story about a boy whose bagpipe teacher is jealous of his superior ability to play, and tries to spoil his chance to become Piper to the MacLeod clan. I loved the illustrations, especially the clothing, although I wondered why the lad wore what looked like knee socks with no feet--maybe they were leggings? Or the feet wore out but he was too poor to buy new ones so he wore the leg part anyway? This would combine nicely with Munro Leaf's Wee Gillis.
