Why would I desperately want to read science books that are 40+ years out of date? I believe the writing is far superior from this time period than what we are currently being presented. This series of books was written to be read by laypeople who wanted to discover new information. These books are far better than textbooks. Textbooks are written to have the correct information in them for the content of classes... but nobody truly cares how readable they are. Except of course the student. These books are imminently readable, written with a combination of people who are experts on the subject at hand and others who are experts at writing to the general public. Having these books in my house is like having a shelf full of the most fascinating college professors, just waiting to make me interested in their class. Also, when I remembered these books from my childhood, I checked online to see if anyone was doing similar work on the web. Everything I found came up lacking by comparison. I think this is due to the difference between making a website and publishing a book. When a website is built, there is an underlying understanding that if it is not quite right it can be fixed at a later date. When a book is published... that's it. The end product shows this distinction. They had to make sure it was as right as it could be first, before it went public. This entire series is a treasure. Yes, it is 40 years outdated, but much of the material in each subject is historical, and you simply won't find a more engaging presentation of it anywhere.
