Heart of the Wolf #3

To Tempt the Wolf

Rate this book

In this third in the series, wildlife photographer Tessa Anderson must prove her brother innocent of murder charges. But when she discovers a gorgeous naked man barely alive on her beach, she's got a new world of troubles to deal with, not least of which is how he affects her with just a look, a touch, or a whispered word.

Hunter Greymore is a lupus garou, a grey werewolf. Hoping to keep a low profile at Tessa's cabin on the coast, he's drawn into her life—and into her bed. His animal instincts war with his human half, but in the end, the only thing he can do about this fascinating, adorable woman is to leave her forever —unless she becomes one of them.

Pack Alpha Hunter Greymore and his twin sister Meara have been displaced from California to Oregon by wildfires. However, Meara is soon kidnapped and as Hunter tries to go to her rescue he is set upon by a group of rogue Lupus Garou which causes him to lose his memory. Meanwhile, his pretty human neighbor, Tessa Anderson is now on her own as her brother has been sentenced to prison for a crime he didn't commit. Tessa happens onto Hunter and thinks to help him recover his health and later discovers he needs to recover his memories as well.
This ended up being quite the complex read. As Hunter finds himself more involved in the web that is Tessa's life, he finds that he can't leave her. Hunter was a great Alpha character and Tessa showed plenty of strength and fortitude, they aren't however the run of the mill paranormal couple. There is more suspense than romance in the books but the intimate scenes arecertainly steamy enough. The mystery of who actually committed the crime her brother is accused of; the romance piece; the action set pieces involving making Hunter whole work perfectly together keeping the pages moving. Added mysteries with a rogue pack and a very old broken friendship lend much tension to this read. Finally, Leidolf from Destiny of the Wolf has a featured role as some of the history of Lupus Garou is imparted which hopefully means more of the stories will tie together as well.
I liked this but not as much as the previous installment. The secondary characters may have been as fleshed, but not much time was spent with them due to the nature of the story. As typical for this series the ending was rather neat. An overreaching arc seems to be appearing, however I'd still say that reading out of order wouldn't harm the enjoyment of the story.

To Tempt the Wolf is book three in the Heart of the Wolf series by Terry Spear. Wildlife Photographer Tessa Anderson believed the only problem she had was to prove her brother incidences of murder. However, that was not the case. One morning Tessa found Hunter Greymore naked and barely alive on the beach. Hunter Greymore had a secret he was Lupus Garou, a grey werewolf and he wants to keep a low profile at Tessa's Cabin. The readers of To Tempt the Wolf will continue to follow Tessa Anderson and Hunter Greymore to find out what happens.

To Tempt the Wolf is the first book I have read of Terry Spear. I did enjoy reading To Tempt the Wolf. I did not expect to engage with the plot of this book. However, I was wrong. I loved Terry Spear's portrayal of the characters and how they interacted with each other throughout this book. To Tempt the Wolf is well written and researched by Terry Spear. I like Terry Spear description of To Tempt the Wolf's settings that complemented this book's plot.

The readers of To Tempt the Wolf will learn about the mythological animals called Werewolfs. Also, the readers of To Tempt the Wolf will learn about the consequences of law enforcement corruption.

I recommend this book.

Hunter and Meara are twins and are around 200 years old. They fled their home in CA to the Oregon coast after their home was destroyed by a wildfire. I really didn't like the plot-line (and little time was spent on it thankfully) of Meara needing a mate and it somehow being Hunter's job to find her one. Or an Alpha who can "handle her." 'Cause all grown ass women need a handler.
Tessa is a wildlife photographer with an affinity for wolves. Her bother was convicted of his girlfriend's murder. He, of course, is innocent and Tessa has vowed to prove that. She is also being stalked (yes, there was a lot going on in this one). She rescues Hunter on the beach during a winter storm. He conveniently has amnesia. But he does remember his first name.
Tessa has a "special bloodline" (because of course she does) and this attracts other werewolves seeking mates. There are multiple characters- Ashton (Michael's friend who has promised to protect Tessa), Rourke (Tessa's ex), Cara (nurse from hospital), 6 rogue werewolves (of note werewolves are everywhere!). The whole issue with the gold was over and done with.
Can't have a werewolf romance:
1. without a kidnapping!
2. sex when they barely know each other
3. no conversation about birth control (or can't get pregnant/have disease because....)
If I read another in this series it will be one a little further ahead. Book 1 sucked and I wasn't interested in the synopsis of book 2.

Tessa is a human with an affinity for wolves and photographing them in their natural habitat. These moments when she is in her element are the only times lately where she feels any semblance of peace. Her brother is in jail for a murder Tessa believes he didn't commit. She's trying to find the real killer in order to free him, but in the middle of her investigation she finds she's being stalked. What's worse is the handsome stranger who washed up on her shore half-dead and naked; stirring all sorts of feelings and emotions she shouldn't be feeling right now.

Hunter is the Alpha of his gray pack with a very high maintenance and tenacious sister. After a forest fire took away their pack’s homes, they’ve been forced to move to Oregon, but the pack refuses to cooperate. His priorities as of late have been to reunite his pack under his territory and find his sister a mate with the Alpha qualities they'll need in order to handle her. It's when his sister decides, against better judgment, to run off with three unmated males that things go from bad to worse. Three against one are not good odds, but Hunter does what he must in order to bring his sister home... although unconscious cliff diving was not part of the plan.

Once again I am thoroughly impressed with the complexity of the plotlines in this third installment to Ms. Spear's wolf series. The California gold rush is involved in the mystery plot, where the descendants now have to uncover the details surrounding some mysterious photographs taken during that time period. The connection to our characters is surprising and cleverly revealed. Hunter experiences amnesia and struggles with doubts of if his chosen mate will be Alpha enough to help lead his pack. Not for lack attraction or desire, but Tessa just doesn't seem physically big enough or emotionally strong enough, which created a new barrier for our couple to face that can't be physically eliminated.

I'm definitely seeing one particular similarity in this series, more so in this book than in the others, and that is the importance of naps. Now you might be thinking what does this have to do with anything, but it is very important to both plot and the building of relationships between our characters. During those moments emotional guards are let down and the reader will be able to see a little more playful and comedic side of an otherwise serious plotline. Granted sleeping is not the only thing that occurs during 'nap-time.' The sex scenes are very sensually written and come with enough heat to keep our characters nice and toasty during the hazardous weather conditions they face.

Recommended reading for fans of naps and a romantic coupling in a hot tub.

Tessa Anderson has always been drawn to wolves, as has her brother Michael, though neither of them can explain why. But when Michael is convicted of a murder he did not commit, Tessa is left alone in their cabin in the woods, and discovers that she is being stalked. When she finds a gorgeous naked man on her beach, her life just gets more complicated. The man is Hunter - he knows that he is a werewolf, and he remembers his first name, but other than that things are a little bit foggy for him. He commits to helping Tessa, both with her stalker, and with her brother's false conviction. But the more he becomes a part of Tessa's life, the more complicated things get.
I enjoyed the werewolf lore that Spear has created for her books. I know that this is not the only one, although I haven't read the others. Her werewolves live in packs, oftentimes related by family, but not always, and the alpha male (Hunter, for example) rules absolutely, along with his mate, if he has one. As with other werewolf romances the werewolves mate for life, which I always find a nice change from many other romances. It was actually kind of amusing how many werewolves kept popping up in this book - not just the main good guys and bad guys, but also nurses at the hospital, cops, judges, you name it. They're everywhere. The romance was good, and overall the book was a good read. The murder mystery was a bit weak, but as that was not the main focus of the story, it didn't necessarily have to be watertight. To Tempt the Wolf was a good introduction to Spear's world of werewolf romance - I'd be interested to see how it works in her other books.

Keeping with the author's other books, Alpha finding his mate. The hero/Alpha was not capable of "leading" his own pack and the heroine was just "OK". The story dragged on for too long to reveal a murder mystery - in the end, I didn't care who "did it" and neither did the author. It was explained in a few paragraphs. As a reader, I felt I was just given a "behind the scene story" for the secondary characters, not really needed if this was the case. After reading the first 2, this book could definitely be skipped.

The person responsible for making edits must have gone on a holiday and stuck a temporary instead. ;-) (How many times can they interchange the name of 2 types of cars - Escort in one scene and an Escape the next...which happened plenty throughout the story!)

Tessa Anderson is in danger. When she find a naked man on the beach, naturally she must bring him out of the coming storm. Hunter Graymere has recently moved to the Oregon coast from California. An accident has him wondering about his life. Will the woman who took him in be able To Tempt a Wolf?

Tessa's life has been in turmoil for months. Her brother was just recently convicted of murdering his girlfriend. When Tessa arrives home she realizes that her house has been broken into. She goes to the only person she can talk to her older neighbor. She finds that he's retired to Florida and his niece and nephew have moved in. Hunter and his sister Meara Graymere left California and came to stay with their uncle after a wildfire. He gets one look at the red haired woman who shows up and can't forget about her. Arriving home, Hunter realizes some strange wolves have been in their house and that his sister is missing. He goes looking for Meara as a wolf and comes across 3 wolves, but not the ones he's looking for. Meanwhile, Tessa has decided to lay in firewood for the coming storm and heads to the beach to find driftwood to burn. A naked man lying on the beach catches her attention. She's immediately intrigued by the beauty of the man. When he gives her a breath stealing kiss, its all she can do to keep her thoughts in order. All Hunter can remember is his first name. Tessa takes him in and helps him to recover. All the while they're fighting the strong desire between them. They make an agreement that Hunter will help her find out who killed her brother's girlfriend and she'll let him stay until he recovers his memory. A sound alerts them to someone in the house but they don't catch anyone. A visit from her former boyfriend, who's a reporter to give Tessa information about her brother's girlfriend has him caught at the house when another storm comes in. A friend of Tessa's brother is sneaking around her house taking shots at Hunter. Hunter realizes the stalker is after Tessa because of her unique bloodline. They finally give into the desire they've been feeling. Some of Hunter's memory comes back. When Hunter has a confrontation with some of the wolves and suffers a serious injury. Her ex-boyfriend is bitten by Hunter when he tries to help him. Tessa and her two protectors decide they must take him to the hospital. Tessa's stalker and his brothers become bolder and attack injuring her brothers friend who promised to help protect her. Her ex-boyfriend and the brothers friend find out that they've become wolves. Tessa stays close at the hospital and an attempt is made to take her from Hunter's room. Meara shows up to find out what Hunter is doing at Tessa's house and that brings back his memory. Meara doesn't like the idea that Tessa and Hunter are together. As another storm makes it's way into the area more people show up at the house. As the two SUVs full people try to leave and their way is blocked they must return to the house. Tessa has several protectors now and Hunter must learn to manage two new pack members. She finds out what Hunter really is but because of her fascination with wolves she soon becomes okay with the idea. A visit from a pack leader in Seattle has Hunter, Tessa and group heading to pick up some more of his pack members. Tessa and Hunter go and visit her brother in prison to get information about his ex-girlfriend and to reveal information to him. An attack at their hotel results in Hunter and friend being in jail and Tessa injured by their attackers. Hunter receives help from some cop wolves and is asked to be added to his pack. Hunter and Tessa must make the decision to turn her into a wolf. Hunter must confront the stalker and his brothers. Tessa is taken to her brothers murdered girlfriend's house. Hunter comes to the rescue and a murderer is revealed. Hunter must deal with several newly turned wolves.

Terry Spear's reissue of To Tempt a Wolf keeps the danger and desire as stormy as the numerous storms that character's face through out the book. She keeps you wondering about challenges and danger they're in. Lives are changed forever and a murderer is looked for all leading to a final confrontation that brings everything together. I'm in love with the original SEAL Wolf character that Ms. Spear uses as a launching point for her SEAL Wolf series. Can't wait for more. You also get a bonus.

Drake Grayling & Riley Silverton have never met but that's all about to change. Drake isn't happy about being dropped from his SEAL team after an injury, but answers his former commander's call for help. Riley has been sent to be bodyguard from a distance. It's a SEAL Wolf to the Rescue when danger comes to Drake's former team members.

Drake Grayling wasn't happy about being taken off his SEAL team after an injury. His sister has been very worried about him since Drake got the call from Hunter Graymere. Riley Silverton is the best friend his sister calls to be his from a distance bodyguard. Only for Riley this mission isn't going at all like it should. A reckless driver brings Drake and Riley together and a date comes out of it. An instant connection between them has Riley rethinking about keeping her mission a secret. She comes clean with Drake about the reason she's there and a call to his sister results in asking why the two never met.
Riley is determined to keep her word and make sure Drake is safe. A connection between Riley and his commander Hunter is revealed and more members of the team come to hep track down the danger. The other team members welcome Riley into the group but think its funny that a Navy SEAL Wolf needs a bodyguard. As they spend more time together they become closer and fall in love. A group effort is made to track down some one that Riley noticed when she and Drake is out running as wolves. They track the men to a camp near the resort and take care of them. Team members on their way to where the resort is run into more men on the way and take care of them. Drake and Riley decide to go back home and visit family in Wisconsin. They become mated wolves. They decide that they'll work for Hunter and go on missions together.

Terry Spear has brought past and present together by reissuing To Tempt a Wolf with a bonus novella about another of Hunter Grayemere's former Navy SEAL wolves. He has brought together his former team mates and they go on missions that no one else want to take on. He brings in a former team mate who injured was dropped from the team and replaced. But when a mission that Drake Grayling was on with his teammates bring danger to them all. He's called to Hunters resort and asked to help track down the enemy. Drake doesn't plan on finding a mate but when his sister sends her best friend to be his bodyguard he can't help but fall in love with Riley Silverton. With danger lurking in the background these to wolves find love and adventure together when its a SEAL Wolf to the Rescue?

If this hadn't been my airplane book, I don't think I would have finished it. The beginning is fun - cheese-o-rama and melodramatic - and the frequent descriptions of the big-busted heroine's turtlenecks and the manly werewolf hero's manliness were quite entertaining. But after awhile the rhetoric about "real men" and the arbitrary (from what I could tell) differentiation between alpha and beta werewolves went from funny to annoying. By the end, I felt like I was slogging through a morass of makes-no-sense in order to reach the end. If it had been shorter or - better yet - had tighter editing, I think I would have enjoyed it more. It's very unlikely I'll read anything else by this author.

I didn't even realize this was a series. Maybe the fact that I hadn't read the first one is why I spent three whole days trying to get through it. It was slightly interesting, but it felt like there were too many characters coming in from different directions. If they were from previous books, then it wouldn't have been so bad. Besides that, I feel like the reason behind the drama seemed a little out there. It wasn't something I ever would have even thought of sicne there were so few clues pointing in that direction. I'm not sure if I'll try and go back and read the first ones or not.

3 stars.

I still feel there is an inconsistency between what happened from book 1 to this 3rd book regarding how to turn a human to a werewolf. Once you disregard this, it was enjoyable.

Probably had the ingredients of a better, more humorous book given all the characters and happenings.

Still had some instances where the wrong name was used so the book does need better editing. But overall, a solid read.

An enjoyable paranormal romance with plenty of action that moved right along. It had an interesting plot with many unexpected turn of events among the characters. Tessa is trying to prove her brother innocent of murder and she rescues a naked Hunter on the beach.

Another ok story. I was so excited about this series but these stories are so repetitive. I really enjoyed the first book, but book 2 and 3 are just ok. The lead characters are not worth remembering.

Tessa Anderson - human, but carries some shifter blood (great grandfather?) and shifters are attracted to her... lives with her brother in inherited cabin on California coast (and rumor great grandfather buried gold on the property), she is nature photographer, with special fascination with wolves; wants to see her brother free;
Hunter Greymere - alpha; 200 years old; fire in wilds of California send him and his sister up to Oregon, where his uncle gifts him with a cottage business in the woods that serves shifters - and warns him of their neighbor Tessa;
Rourke Thornburg - reporter, went to school with Tessa
Ashton Wellington - son of local sheriff; a bit of a trouble maker; Michael is his best friend; he was seeing Michael's fiancé;
Micheal Anderson - younger brother, painter of nature, wolves; just starting to make a name for self, and fiancé feeling neglected as his career takes off; convicted of her murder, though he didn't do it;
Meara Greymere: Hunter's sister; doesn't take change easily; in heat and wants a mate

Meara goes with 3 rogue wolves when brother not moving fast enough for her; Hunter goes after her, is ambushed, ad thrown off a cliff; wakes up on beach, with Tessa giving him CPR; he has lost his memory;

and Hunter working on getting his memory back; aware he's a shifter and recognizes that a shifter is stalking Tessa (broke into her house, etc), and he needs to protect her.... It's stormy weather... and Roarke shows up, stays to protect Tessa, and is accidently turned to shifter (an easy transformation); Ashton shows up, he knows someone stalking her and he promised brother he'd look after her, and then he gets bitten in a fight; and finally Meara shows up, and his memory returns.

It ends up that 6 wolves are trying to claim the land (killing the one, and wanting to turn and mate Tessa) as much for the mate as for the gold they are convinced is on the land... and Hunter and crew fight them off, and put an end to it all.

and though Hunter had no intention of mating with Tessa, when he finds out she is shifter of sorts, and not scared off by them all, he takes her for mate, biting her to change her... and after they get Michael freed, she bites her brother to turn him also.

Hunter's life will never be the same, with 4 new wolves to watch out for : )

Well, according to the reviews, I messed up! In one of her books, it showed this as book 2, but I guess it's book 3. Whoops.

Tessa is a wildlife/nature photographer. She has a fascination with wolves. Her brother just got convicted of killing his girlfriend, who is also fascinated with wolves, but he paints them.
Tessa is determined to prove her brothers innocence and, in the process, comes across a smexy male that washed up on her beach and takes him under her wing to get him nursed back to health.
Hunter is an alpha male to a pack of wolves that separate after a wildfire claims their homes. He is thrown from a cliff and suffers amnesia, only remembering his name and being a wolf.
Of course, Tessa and Hunter develop feelings for each other, but with her being a human and him being a werewolf, they can not be. Unless he changes her, but he doesn't believe that. Until he does to keep her out of the paws of 3 other alphas.
Well, bugger it all. This book was all over the dang place. We had romance, werewolves, murder mystery, stalking, Alpha smexy males, and a whole lot of characters. Which just seemed to be fillers.
This book didn't need to be so long, I liked it in the beginning, and then it just felt like it dragged on and on.
I just don't think this author is for me. I love a good shifter romance and the Alpha men. But this feels like a plot wrapped in another plot, wrapped into another plot and some where we just lost it all. There was murder, gold, and alpha/pack problems.
So confusing to my brain and the way the author writes, we are Tessa pov on paragraph, and the next, we are Hunter and then back to Tessa. I need a moment. I love dual POV, but not where the paragraphs are blurring together, and you're not sure whose head you're in.
The family line, grandmother's, great grand mothers, and cousins (distant) omg. I got so lost. Devlyn and Bella, i remember from the first book... that's it. Don't remember the others. 😑

I don't judge an author by the first book I read from them. So I always try to read at least 2 or 3 (because you never know). But this is my last read from her. She isn't my flavor and that's OK!
The writing was good and for anyone who loves wolves and cute love stories or mates finding each other. This is for you! ❤️

Tessa, a human female lives in the Pacific Northwest along the coast. She is out picking up firewood on the beach when she comes across a naked man who is unconscious and freezing. That man, Hunter, is really a lupus garou or werewolf. He is the leader of a pack that is in the area and becomes involved with a vicious gang of grey wolves that are up to “no good”! Tessa and Hunter become involved and the story goes on. Actually, this is a rather long book but I really didn’t mind. It’s got tons of action and a great story. I’ve read shapechangers, paranormal romance before but the author, Terry Spear, gives some wonderful detail into the lives and habits of the loup garou! She also explains and displayed the process of a human becoming a werewolf. Very Interesting! Treat yourself to some great action and a fabulous story. Five stars for this one!

Tessa is a wildlife photographer and has been taking photos on a property that now belongs to gray wolf shifter, Hunter Greymore. Tessa is trying to raise money to prove her brother innocent of murder charges of his girlfriend. When he winds up on her beach with no memory of how he got there he hangs out at her place to figure out who he is and what happened. He tells her that he'll help with her investigation into who really killed her brother's girlfriend and will help determine who her stalker is. The attraction between them is strong and immediate. Hunter feels his wolf wanting to claim Tessa but he doesn't want to turn a human. Things quickly get complicated and Hunter has a huge decision to make with regards to Tessa.

The novella in this book is SEAL Wolf Team to the Rescue. Hunter Greymore calls together his former SEAL team, all wolf shifters, because they are on a list to be killed. The situation goes back to a mission they were on. One of the team members has a personal bodyguard that his sister sent supposedly because he still has PTSD but it seems that there is more to her doing so.

Both stories hooked me at the beginning and kept me entranced until the end. Terry Spear does paranormal romance well and her wolf shifters are awesome. I highly recommend this book and the series. You'll be thrilled you read her books.

What is it with Terry Spear and taking naps that turn sexy? Also she seems to have a liking for alpha men (which I like) and hormonal, weak women. I usually like these trapped-in-a-cabin-together type of stories but unfortunately they are trapped with a big cast of characters, several of which are very disagreeable. The must-become-a-werewolf angle suspense is interesting and well-done. I'm not sure that I would pursue Spear as an author after reading two of her books. She's not bad but seems a little formulaic.

Awesome boom. I loved it. The only thing that was a little frustrating was the way they went round and round about whether they wanted to be together or not. Took them long enough to get their stuff together!

DNF

This got boring here and there, and it took me until the 70% Mark to remember that I don't actually have to finish the book. I don't even care who the killer is. Just got boring.

I Loved this book. Not only because it has a fantastic romance or two, but it answered questions about how the mates met. I love everything Terry Spear writes.

I've never read a Wolf Book. This one was a truly good read, a murder mystery and a romance rolled together.
