Here's everything you need to know about diabetes in a one-of-a-kind book packed with information you won't find anywhere else. Using an easy-to-search format, Real-Life Guide to Diabetes lets you find the answers to your most pressing questions quickly and easily. Other books give you complex systems to manage your diabetes, but those rarely work in real life - it's time for a more realistic approach.
I borrowed this book from my local library for education purposes and thought I would compose a pro/con list for this book as a review while reading before I give an overall rating.
PROS - easy to read, easy to understand - format puts information into "chunks" which helps to break up information so you do not feel overwhelmed -- basically it is set up like a great textbook (colour, photos, diagrams etc.) - because the information is organized well you can focus on specific types of information in each chapter or skip information that is not relevant to you
CONS - the numbers within this book, specifically blood glucose targets, are not good for Canadians since they are all in US measurements/units that are different from what is used in Canada - at times the information was very repetitive - a lot of common sense information
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS - an good resource for information - good for people newly diagnosed - a wide range of topics were covered
I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Today I spent some time picking out a couple books that would help me understand what I am going to need to do. This is a new book fresh off of the press this month.
The book is packed full of helpful information that is easy to understand for someone new to this world. Everything is presented in an order that steps you from getting the diagnosis, understanding what all of the tests and numbers mean, then on to making a "Real Life" plan for how you are going to live with this disease. It also covers having plans for when you are traveling or special occasions.
I spent the last three days researching on the web and did not learn as much as I learned in this book in about an hour.
Very helpful to get a handle on numbers, how to deal with diabetes, and help my recently diagnosed MIL. Also had a grandmother and have an uncle with this issue. Needing to change my diet to keep healthy. Very informative.
