My journey into my past continues with this next entry into the Race Against Time series when Uncle Richard and Stephen find themselves embroiled in a very bizarre caper on the islands of Hawaii. Uncle Richard receives a plea for help from an old friend named Jade Munroe, and fearing the worst, our duo leave for Honolulu to arrive and find that nothing is as it seems. Enduring dangers underwater, in caverns, from snakes, in an out-of-control airplane, from stampeding cattle, and inside a live volcano -our two adventurers may have finally found themselves in over their heads as the stakes are raised and their very lives teeter on the edge. Add to all of this the fact, that they must finish things up in time to get back home to New York before Stephen's parents do.

So far, of all the books in the series, this was the most unusual and unique of the bunch. In fact, it was borderline "weird" as I got the constant vibe that Uncle Richard and Stephen had somehow tapped into the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits with everything that was happening around them. The main antagonist is a bad guy named, The Shark ... mainly because of his filed down teeth that are pointy and razor sharp - a weapon which he tries to use like Jaws from a James Bond movie when he attempts to bite Richard's neck. Adding to the weirdness is his #1 henchman, Arms Akimbo, a Polynesian with massive arms (hence the name) and the disposition and speech of Oddjob - also of James Bond lore. As if this isn't weird enough, they find themselves surrounded by cowboys on a volcanic island literally herding cattle (so that rustlers can't get to them - yeah, rustlers ... in Hawaii) who are also henchmen of The Shark in support of his diabolical plan. But, that's not all! At the root of it all, the real mastermind calling the shots is an unidentified player who is simply known as, The Mole.

Even though this one was weird and strange, it was still a fun ride and a memorable reading experience. It isn't one of my favorites, and it gets a very average 3 stars out of 5. If you are looking for escapism to a time before smart phones and internet, then I would recommend this one to you. What are you waiting for? "Move it!" and get started reading.
