Frances Parkinson Keyes was an American author who wrote about her life as the wife of a U.S. Senator and novels set in New England, Louisiana, and Europe. A convert to Roman Catholicism, her later works frequently featured Catholic themes and beliefs. Her last name rhymes with "skies," not "keys."

It took me ages to get through this book as it felt like each short story was similar to all the rest and I kept getting the feeling that I had already read it but was confusing the characters. There are 16 short stories, mostly set in and around Washington DC, with a few further afield in New England and New Orleans.

Most revolved around romance with one person being rich, one poor or one person being from the wrong background with the other from a society background. Many are set in the early 20th century and revolve around grand mansions and political families with formal habits. None have gripped me at all and I am at a loss to comment on any in detail.

Not one of Frances Parkinson Keyes' better books sadly.
