Hard to tell if I had read this before long ago or if it was just predictable but I still found this story of India in the 1930s and 40s very interesting. Obviously, Indian independence is portrayed from the British point of view but the violence and destruction described by the author is disturbing on any level. The end result, however, is that the book was not very romantic; it worked better as a picture of army life in the last days of the Raj...

Couldn't get into this at all - maybe it was not my kind of book.
