For young readers, an educational book is oftentimes more engaging when you don't even realize you are learning. With Nicolette's entertaining and fun Stock Explore illustrated picture book, children will delight in being introduced to the world of stocks, investing, and companies and corporations. The beautiful painterly watercolor illustrations help to create a reading experience that is lively and interesting while the fascinating text explains terms, words, and concepts involving the book themes, weaving them into a playful story.
With STEM books on the rise, both at home and in school, Stock Explore will fit right in to a family or school curriculum that speaks not only of math or technology, but how it is used in the real world. DiMaggio does a wonderful job of introducing what can be a complex topic in a way that will engage young readers and is best learned early on.

"Stock Explore Book 1" by Nicolette DiMaggio invites young readers on an engaging and educational financial adventure that stands out among children's books. Through a delightful narrative and vibrant illustrations, this book not only captures the imagination but also imparts valuable lessons in a way that is both fun and magical.

At the heart of the story is Elle, a courageous girl embarking on her first stock market exploration. What sets this book apart is its unique approach to teaching financial literacy by introducing Elle to five superpowers, each imparting essential principles. The inclusion of these superpowers not only adds an element of excitement to the narrative but also serves as a clever way to convey important concepts to young readers.

The narrative unfolds with the guidance of Sam, an owl companion who aids Elle in her financial journey. This dynamic duo makes the learning process interactive and enjoyable for children, turning what might seem like a complex subject into an accessible and entertaining adventure. The owl's presence adds a touch of magic to the story, making financial exploration feel like a magical quest.

One of the standout features of "Stock Explore" is its colorful and beautiful illustrations that complement the narrative. The visual appeal of the book enhances the overall reading experience, capturing the attention of young readers and immersing them in the world of financial discovery. The illustrations not only bring the characters to life but also contribute to making the learning process visually engaging.

To further aid children in understanding financial concepts, the book includes a glossary of financial terms in the back. This thoughtful addition ensures that young readers have a resource to refer to, promoting independent learning and reinforcing the lessons introduced in the narrative. The glossary serves as a valuable tool for parents and educators to facilitate discussions about finance with children.

"Stock Explore Book 1" succeeds in making investing for kids not only educational but also enjoyable. By weaving financial principles into a captivating story, Nicolette DiMaggio has created a children's book that stands out for its ability to make a potentially complex subject accessible and entertaining. Elle's financial exploration, coupled with the charming owl companion and vibrant illustrations, makes this book a must-read for young readers eager to embark on a magical journey of financial literacy.

Golly, this was an unusual children's book. There's a desperate need for today's children to become financially literate in a way that wasn't so true for most of our parents or grandparents. But how to start? These days, most people don't even handle cash, so talking about cents and dollars isn't especially useful and talking about stocks and finance is rather abstract for most children.

As far as I've found, "Stock Explore" is the only game in town for pre-teenage children. Thank goodness it's an excellent book, I should say maybe for ages six to twelve. I've left a wide range because, although the illustrations are extremely cute and fine for a wide range of ages, and the language and concepts are basically simple--short and helpful--it does have a vocabulary that I'm certain most pre-teens (and many teens) don't possess e.g. 'individual bargaining power' and 'substitution'.

So be warned that, although the author does an excellent job of equating financial terms to kids' soccer teams, the book does require a helpful adult to explain the terms--unless, of course, the parents are both economists who talk business over the dinner table. Here's a short snippet:

"Stocks have financial reports and ratios to compare themselves against one another, which is very similar to the score in a game."
