I'm mixed. I do think the author has designed some attractive geometric quilts, and I appreciate all the math that's been done for each variation. That said, I don't think I'm the audience for this book even though I like the aesthetic; I started quilting a long time ago with Fons & Porter and later Denyse Schmidt books, which are just very different stylistically. I'm not really looking for instagram-style sharing (oh, is this pillow a reminder to you to make memories with your family? Really?) and I have a knee-jerk "get off my lawn" reaction to being told that machine binding is better because it lasts longer (my hand binding still survives after 20+ years). Also, I admit to sitting in extreme judgement of the noob quilters on the socials who get all their quilts long armed. That's half. the. work!

I didn’t end up using any patterns out of the book, but I did find some of the visuals & descriptions helpful as a first time quilter. A good library borrow, but not one I would buy.

I very much enjoyed a talk that the author gave to my modern quilt guild, and I bought her other two books--one is a collection of paper pieced blocks that are for a baby board book that I plan to give to people when I give them a baby quilt--baby's first quilt book. The other is a book of quilt patterns that I liked several quilts in and would like to try to make. This one is full of patterns for making things in your house, and that is less of something that I would do--I am not quite into that. I don't want a bunch of pillows, I am barely making pouches, and while I like a number of these things homemade (and from the same quilt retreat, I won three patterns to make pouches, and I even bought the hardware to make one of them, that is not my super power). So while this book of patterns and ideas has a lot of the attention to detail that Urban Quilting has, this is not quite up my alley.

I preordered this book just based on Wendy's prior work. However, I found that the book, though very aesthetic, was a disappointment overall. The projects were not particularly inspiring and there was only one that really felt original.

I do recommend Wendy's first book, though- I found it quite delightful!

This quilting book shares a lot of detailed information, including specific measurements for the mathematically challenged among us, but the font is TINY and difficult to read, and some of the instructions seemed confusing to me, even when I already knew how to do the thing the author was explaining. There are way better quilting books on the market with similar aesthetics.

The best part of this book is the color combinations, which are really fantastic! And it’s all great eye candy. It was a good one to check out from the library! I read it for 45 minutes, made some mental notes, and was done. I didn’t really want to make any of the projects, although I enjoyed seeing her versions.

This book does not in any way shape or form help develop your quilting skills. The author feels there are only six steps to achieve a quilt which is completely finished. For any one who actually does quilt this book is an insult.

I enjoyed how she showed different color choices based on different color themes. Also loved that she included pillow sham patterns that compliment the two bed quilt patterns she has in the book, I wish more quilting books offered that

The quilt patterns in this book are very attractive! I could see myself using some of them. I can’t really rate this as I’ve only read the copy and admired the photos, and haven’t used any of the provided patterns or instructions. If I do, I’ll try to remember to report back ☺️

A physically beautiful book, the muted colours and textured paper is pleasing. But in terms of inspiration or information, maybe it’s a bit basic for those who already quilt.

Really comprehensive. I will want to revisit this book when it’s time to add the batting to my quilt top. Lots of fun and easy to follow quilt patterns included too.
