An informative book of which maps' schrift needs telescophe to use.

At the time I survived in Istambul without this handy tourist guide omitting too much.

I loved that this was for a quick time, but it's better to have the bigger LP guides to get the full history.

The maps in this book are TERRIBLE. They can show you that things are in the same area, but we would need to:
a) look at the address
b) look at the map for the general area
c) consult another map for streets
d) continue to wander around in that neighborhood because the way the streets are is not always intuitive

Good guide with most of the European side of Istanbul included. I wish the pull out map was more detailed though (the other Encounter series maps that I have are far larger). It would also help to offer a little guidance on the Asian side of Istanbul, if only a few pages.

I love that each attraction listed indicates the best tram and metro stop - that was a huge help in navigating the streets of Istanbul. The one-pager on Buyukada was helpful too.

Purchased this book with the hope/expectation of visiting Istanbul on a business trip. Am still waiting for the work permit but am beginning to lose hope. In the meantime, this book is a nice distraction. The descriptions and pictures are so beautiful. It definitely makes me want to go to Istanbul.
