Okay, yes, I am the author. But if I don't like my book....The truth is put in five stars and then tried to backtrack cause I felt a wee bit embarrassed. But it turns you don't take away the star part once you put it out there in cyberspace. Oh, well, it might look weird. But I do like my book!

“I look up, staring at the face staring back at me. There was no mistake … there must be someone else looking at herself in the mirror.” Things Are Gonna Get Ugly by Hillary Homzie is about a girl named Ernestine Smith. During a move from Pennsylvania to California she transforms herself from being geeky and ugly Ernestine to being beautiful and popular Taffeta Smith. At Cambridge Middle School she is known as the leader of the girls, but when she is caught cheating off of Winslow (a guy who has ...more

Over the summer my niece (who is 11) and I started sharing books on our Kindle readers and doing a mini book club. We both read the story then text about it back and forth to keep in touch and spend time together. This is the first book we chose to read and it was really fun! We both agreed that there were quite a few LOL places and that the ending was super cute. My niece loved the characters and I liked that it had no questionable content for her to be reading. Our second book (Rebecca and the ...more

I wasn't sure what to think when the main character started out as an unlikeable snob, but she develops into a sweet, caring friend and daughter by the end of the story. Similarly to movies like 13 going on 30, Taffeta is transformed into Earnestine, the nerdy girl she would have been had she made different choices. Experiencing this new life gives her a very different outlook on all the people she had judged by appearance only.

For older middle schoolers struggling with popularity, judging othe

This book, I picked it up on my English Teacher's shelf. It was a last minute decision to find a book and read when I walked in (and Miss Ciciliot sorry if you are reading this) but I want to say it looked better than it read. I personally really hate books like this because they bore me sooooo much. This book is #87 on my list. Thank you for reading this. Hoped it helped a little bit.
