In 2007 I lost 10kg following a lifestyle plan quite similar to the one in this book. However, at the time I assumed it was because of the foods I was eating, not the effect the pattern of eating had on my metabolism.

3 years later, and my weight has slowly piled back on, mostly in the last 12 months due to stress with work and money. I've been feeding myself my 'healthy' foods from my previous diet with no effect. I have been getting increasingly frustrated with my lack of success at maintaining my weight loss.

This book explains that it wasn't my choice of foods in itself that was poor - it was the fact that the ways I was exercising and eating were allowing my body's metabolism to slow to a crawl - not enough variety in my nutrient sources and activities.

The book suggests a pattern of eating and exercise to keep your metabolism fired up. Some people have said this is a low-carb lifestyle, but that's a bit simplistic. Part of the plan involves days where you eat low carb - but then these days are followed by times where you can eat pasta, breads etc - the key is to keep cycling so that your body does not become accustomed to just one way of eating, which is what happened to me. I plateaued, I maintained, but then as soon as some high stress came my way, I caved and gained.

I purchased this book simply because it was the first ePub ebook I found that looked worth reading while skimming The Book Depository - I'd just bought an iRiver iStory and wanted to test out a DRM ebook on it. So I went into this book knowing very little about it. Glad I picked it up, though. If you are feeling frustrated with your weight loss, check it out. And if you are considering the ePub version, I can recommend it, very well-laid-out and easy to read.

It seems so extremely complicated, I'm not sure I could implement this unless I were very desperate. It also asks for a large amount of cardio 6 days per week. I know myself, and for me that would lead to fatigue, burnout, and uncontrollable hunger.

Conquer the Fat-Loss Code is a quick and enjoyable read where health & fitness books are concerned. Laid out in an easy to read and understand manner the book is presented in four sections:

Conquering The Code -the guts of the code, how bodies respond to exercise, diet and how we can outsmart nature to get better results.

Your Success Planner - a day by day planner to follow the plan, with space to record your progress and your findings.

Tips, Tactics, and Tools For Success - a helpful section detailing how to deal with special life circumstances when Conquering the Code along with other tips & tricks

Wendy's MMM Good Recipes - Many healthy recipes presented to help you follow the plan.

History tells me that this isn't a diet or lifestyle that I will be able to stick to strictly but what I've learned will instead be incorporated into my daily life - and I've started today. And, although I won't be using the Success Planner myself I can guarantee that I will be following along to a certain degree, even the part that will let Jillian back into my life again.
