It took a few chapters for me to get into this one- I thought I was going to hate the "bubbleheaded" heroine, but it was very sweetly done. I think Mansfield was going for the "love you against my better judgement" thing that Mr. Darcy had going on in P&P, but it wasn't quite endearing enough; I thought Griff was an insensitive, selfish jerk, and he didn't really have a softening of character by the end of the novel. Ada redeemed the book for me- a charming love story.

if Amelia Bedelia were a regency heroine this would be her book. However I didn't find her charming as a child and I don't really find her charming now. Someone as scatterbrained as Ada would drive me clear up a wall, and I thought the arguments the hero made against marrying her were very sound. It's obviously meant to be silly and fun but I just couldn't get into the spirit of it.

I picked this up off of Laurie's shelf today...and when I started reading it, it didn't seem familiar to me. I thought I had read all of Elizabeth Mansfield's books, but I guess I haven't. It was a good read...easy one too as I finished it in all of a couple of hours. I like Mansfield, she is in the vein of Georgette Heyer. This one did not disappoint, with a likeable hero and heroine and everyone lives happily ever after....AFTER they get over the bumps and obstacles thrown in their paths, of course.
