Excellent book for those wanting to photograph nature. Do note that this is quite an old book (2007) so there is very minimal discussion of DSLR photography, but instead a great focus on (the far superior) film SLR photography.

Some of the shots Thompson has taken with 35mm film are absolutely incredible. There's great advice and tips for photographers of all levels as well, which is awesome.

FYI: film used in most of his shots is Fuji Velvia. Going to get myself some of that film too :)

Chapters:
1. Photographic Hardware (which is extremely detailed, ranging from choosing a camera system to teleconverters)
2. Putting it into practice (also very detailed, ranging from composition and design to photographing aquatic life)
3. Photographing the Seasons (favourite chapter, all shots are using film, and they're dope!)
+ Useful contacts and websites, as well as suggested reading.

One of my favourite photographers, Robert Thompson is a great inspiration for aspiring Macro photographers. Trying to replicate his style and quality of photo is a learning process in itself and a great way to further understand the intricacies of macro photography. This book balances macro with 'close up' and general landscape photography incredibly well, giving the aspiring macro photographer the feel that there can be something out there other than macro.

Great stuff --- and if you are into macro and/or nature and/or close up photography, this is as close as you will get to a one stop shop.
