Wish I could give it a 2.5 but going with a 2 over a 3. I appreciate anything that sounds like my grandpa wrote it, so i liked the old man vibe. Kept me entertained but overall the protagonist was pretty lame, many of the supporting characters were interchangeable and confusing, and the story was a bit surface-level. I never got to a point of wanting to stop reading it though so in my heart it’s a 2.5

Wow. The SINGLE worst book I have ever read in my life. From the son of John Cheever, no less.

Clever first novel. How hard it must be to follow a father like John Cheever and be a writer ! And two of his three children (Ben and Susan) did just that. I like B. Cheever's sly sense of humor.
