Sneaky Chef to the Rescue shows that any family can “sneak” good food into their diets, making everybody (both kids and adults) both happier and healthier.
This book is genius! I had an aha! moment when I saw all the uses for purees. They take minutes to put together the ingredients, and then only seconds to blend. I've already started using many of these ideas in our kitchen. A household with any ages could appreciate these recipes.
I haven't read the other Sneaky Chef books so I don't know how the format compares, but I love the idea of making purees in advance and then using them as ingredients in recipes. My toddler will never know there's a cauliflower/zucchini blend or a blueberry/spinach blend in his foods. There are several recipes I'm looking forward to trying, and it seems that mom and dad will like the foods, too.
How much work you'd have to do versus the amount of nutrients that you are able to "sneak" into regular meals seems not worth the time to me on some of these recipes. That said, after reading the whole book, I may try one of two of the sauces (the white or white bean) and see how it goes down (or doesn't) with my kids.
I really like the four blend recipe...it's so easy to substitute into any baking you do. The preparation/cooking does take time, so be forewarned, but most of the recipes I tried my family and I enjoyed.
This is a great addition to the Sneaky Chef collection. I love this new book. I love the concept...yes...I hide veggies from my kids! I try to get them to eat them whenever I can. The recipes are fun and my kids actually like them.
Oops, returned this before I could actually test any recipes. Love the concept, though, and it has inspired me to try out a few "tricks" of my own for introducing more vegetables and "healty matter" into our diet.
I'm skeptical of that brownie recipe, though, regardless.
