I have been reading books by Nancy Carlson and now I have stumbled upon one of her books called “Making the Team” and in this story, Arnie the Cat and Louanne the Pig both try out for the cheerleading and the football teams. “Making the Team” is a truly wonderful book for children who want to learn about the importance of teamwork!

I loved that it was the girl who was good at football and the boy who was great at cheerleading!

like many of nancy carlson's books they have a good message,
fun pictures and great characters.

i like the idea the idea of addressing gender roles with young
ones, i think it is an important message to teach children.

Although this is the story about a cat and a pig, this is another book that also shares gender roles and acceptance. Louanne the Pig wants to try out for the cheerleading squad and Arnie the Cat wants to go for the football team. As the two of them have been practicing, Louanne can't seem to get her jump right, but Arnie can. Arnie also had a hard time catching a football, but Louanne was able to.
