This one's climax was a bang compared to other Love-Inspired books! It even reminded me of those of Love Inspired Suspense (*spoiler!* one of the characters gets drugged, and there's a kidnapping!).
Connor and Maddie were also super adorable, and I loved Alli's heart for serving children and her persistence in pushing forward in life even after going through some traumatic work experiences. I am so glad she got her happy ending with Jake, and the epilogue really was perfect!
One tiny complaint (lol) is that I wish there were more scenes set in church. After the opening where Alli is forced to see Jake again after their falling out in high school, the book tragically moved away from church and to other settings like the library and, of course, Jake's ranch.
Still, the ranch, with its farmhouse and open fields, was picturesque, and I would say that Loving the Rancher's Children makes for a fantastic summer read. If you like Christian fiction, second chances, and/or sweet and lighthearted romance stories, this one is for you!

LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN is the third book in the Hope Crossing series. The story takes place in Hope Crossing, Texas and I have been blessed to have read all three. Mindy Obenhaus describes it so beautifully that I am ready to pack my bags and go see it for myself. LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN is filled with faith, love, forgiveness, and second chances. What more could you ask for right? Can two best friends find their way back to each other?
LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN deals with so many different emotions that one minute I was giggling and the next tearing up. Alli is back in Hope Crossing after Jake Walker broke her heart seventeen years ago. She does not trust Jake and yet somehow, she finds herself agreeing to be his children’s nanny. Connor and Maddy are two adorable kids that will definitely steal the reader’s hearts. Can Alli really work for Jake without him bringing back all her old feelings? He humiliated her once before. What if he does it again? Jake is raising his two beautiful babies on his own since his wife died in a car crash. Right before that happens, she let him know she was leaving him because she was in love with someone else.
LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN will surely pull at your heart strings and make it very hard for you to put down. If you are like me, you won’t be able to stop until you know what happens to all of these beautiful people in Hope Crossing. Reading how Alli and Jake responded to each other is very funny since both are so stubborn. Is it possible for them to get a second chance at love if they would just stop and listen to the other? I’m not going to tell you, but I will say that you really should read LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN and get to know this lovable small town. At the end of the book, Mindy teases her readers saying that book four will be out around Christmas. I hope I can wait that long to get my hands on it!

Once you start LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN you won’t be able to put it down and will find yourself cheering for Jake and Alli as they try to navigate their way through a very different and unique situation. Alli really brings order and peace to a very chaotic Walker home and it is exactly what they need. Can she protect her heart while helping this struggling man? Mindy Obenhaus will pull you in from the very first page and never let you go!

It is a true joy to be back in Hope Crossing, Texas for this third installment of the series by author Mindy Obenhaus. Loving the Rancher’s Children is a page-turner, start to finish.
Alli Krenek has returned home after a number of years as a CPS worker in Austin. After a devastating event, she feels a life change is in order, and plans to make the garage apartment at her dad’s ranch her temporary home while she studies to become a teacher.
Jake Walker, widower, single dad, and neighboring rancher, is - WAS - Alli’s best friend growing up, until the time in high school he stood her up for their first official date, foolishly listening to his buddies, and damaging Alli’s self esteem in the process. His humiliation of her destroyed their friendship, something he regrets to this day, over a decade later.
Jake has need of a nanny for his two young children, and Alli needs to earn money while she studies. Can she really work for the man she’s avoided for years? Can he get a chance to truly apologize? As they spend time together, can the spark that started as teenagers be reignited? With the Lord’s help, anything is possible!
I devoured this book, and am confident you will, too. Mindy says at the end that book 4 will be out in time for Christmas. That can’t come soon enough!

I adore second chance love stories and I think this one definitely fits the bill. Growing up, Jake and Alli were neighbors and best friends who almost became more. After teenage Jake made a bad decision that broke Alli’s heart, they ended up as mere strangers for seventeen years.
I loved the strong chemistry that hovered between these two throughout the story. The fact that Alli didn’t want to work for Jake, but decided to anyway for the sake of his children showed what a caring heart she had. A heart that continued to try to do what was right for anyone who she felt needed help, especially children. The relationship that grew between Allie and Jake’s kids was adorable.
I thought that the way the working relationship morphed into a renewal of friendship before growing into more was very natural and worked with the flow of the story. Jake had some things to let go of from his past and once he did, his heart was in a much better place and able to recognize how he felt for Alli. And Alli had some issues and guilt that she carried that almost did their relationship in, however, all worked out as it should. I loved the epilogue!

Loving the Rancher’s Child by Mindy Obenhous is such a sweet small town romance story built on past friendship and the love of two children. Taking place in Hope Crossing, Texas, the author brings this story to life with an adorable story to life with engaging and relatable characters. Readers will adore and be cheering for Alli and Jake as their old friendship blossoms into much more. Although the third book in the Hope Crossing series, this story can be read as a stand alone. This charming Hallmark style story is one that readers will adore and will not want to put down!

Loving The Rancher's Children by Mindy Obenhaus. Another great book by Mindy! As Jake Walker is trying to find a nanny for his Children, he needs to make amends to his long time friend Alli who he broke her heart years ago! Can he earn her trust once again because he has missed his best friend! This was such a great book and it was a page-turner I highly recommend this book! Such a great book!

Let’s start with what we all know about most Love Inspired books. They are predictable and somewhat formulaic, but I have to say that this publisher knows their audience well because sometimes we are just in the mood to read something predictable with a promised happy ending.
And then there are books like Loving the Rancher’s Children by Mindy Obenhaus. You’re reading along, heading straight for that happy ending and then, Boom!, you’re on a detour you totally didn’t see coming. The kinds of plot twists are what make books more memorable for me.
I would have enjoyed this book without the plot twist for several reasons. One, I love reading about guys with children who are just barely getting by until a woman comes in and rescues him. Two, I connected with Alli and Jake from the first pages of this book. They’ve both experienced some difficulties in their lives but are pressing on. And since the two were best friends in their youth, they have some deep history between them.
I’ve been a fan of Obenhaus for a while now, but Loving the Rancher’s Children has me ready to get my hands on whatever she writes next (no plot twist required).

I absolutely loved this story. This second-chance romance is as sweet as it is page-turning. I really liked Allie and Jake, with their hearts of gold. It made it so easy to root for them. The children are adorable, too. And the incidents Allie and Jake face wouldn’t let me put the book down. Not to mention, I loved getting to see past characters again.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the whole series so far, and this was a wonderful addition. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did!

I am a big fan of book by Mindy Obenhaus. This is the third book in the Hope Crossing series. All of the characters in this book make me want to live in Hope Crossing. This town seems like one of those places where anyone is one big family. I really enjoy reading how Alli relates to the two kids of her childhood best friend. You can tell she has a gift with kids. The author did a good job with the way she brought Alli and Jake back together. I absolutely loved getting to witness their slow friend to more romance develop. I would definitely recommend this book.

Loving the Rancher’s Children is the third book in the Hope Crossing Novel series by Mindy Obenhaus. While it's part of a series, it can be read alone. However, I highly recommend you grab the first two books.
I really enjoyed Alli and Jake's story. The cast of characters are realistic and well developed. I especially loved the addition of Jake's children, Maddy and Connor. This was a sweet read and the faith element was displayed perfectly. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Wonderful book very easy read, captivating. I recommend everyone read this book. I personally don't like when I read a review with spoilers in it. So I try not to do this. Hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did.

I love this book! Jake and Alli are so cute together, and they don't even know it! Add in two adorable kids and this book is a winner! 5 stars!

Years ago Jake Walker broke Alli's heart. Now Alli is back in Hope Crossing. Jake is a widow with two young children. Alli needs a job and Jake needs a nanny. After meeting Jake's children Allie can't resist them. As Alli and Jake spend time together they realize they still have feelings for each other. This is a awesome heartwarming story of love, faith, hope and second chances. A must read. I highly recommend Loving the Ranchers Children.

Loving the Rancher's Children by Mindy Obenhaus is a great book! I liked that we found out early on what the rift is between Alli and Jake and I liked that Alli realized that it might be a bit juvenile and time to let it go, even if it was hard. It was realistic why Alli was back in town and how her path crossed with Jake's. It also made good sense to me why Allie became the nanny for Jake's children. There was a twist in the story that I never saw coming, but was very good.
Even though this is the third book in the series it can easily be ready as a stand alone. It was nice to see characters from previous books make appearances, but you don't need to know them to thoroughly enjoy this book. If you like contemporary, inspirational fiction, I recommend this book.

Loving the Rancher’s Children by Author Mindy Obenhaus is Book #3 in the Hope Crossing Series. Each is stand alone but do not deprive yourself by not reading them all! The story is inspirational with touches of forgiveness, faith, and hope. The children on the cover, Maddy and Connor Walker, have lost their mother at an early age. They are adorable and in need of a nanny. That is where their dad, Jake’s former friend, Allie Krenek, comes to the rescue. The curious twist at the end makes for an attention-grabbing conclusion. Needs added to your to-be-read-pile.

The first book I read of the author’s was the fifth book of her Rocky Mountain Heroes series, Her Rocky Mountain Hope in January 2020. I was moved, to the point of tears, by her writing that I added the first four books in that series to my TBR list. They’re still on that list (I promise I’ll get to them … “someday”). But, I have since read all four books in the Bliss, Texas series and the first book in this series. The second book is on the TBR list as well.
As with any book series that has is set in the same town, and has reoccurring characters, it is ALWAYS best to read the books in order.
While this book centers on Alli Krenek, her father Bill and step-mother Francie return. Readers will recognize Francie as Gloriana’s mom (The Cowgirl’s Redemption). Also returning from book #1 is Kyleigh and Justin. Hawkins and Annalise from book #2 (A Christmas Bargain) return, along with a sweet wedding.
Like most of Obenhaus’ books, she doesn’t shy away from tough subjects. Giving Alli a former job as a CPS Case Worker definitely steps up to the difficult. Adding to that her perceived failure from a child’s death in an abusive situation, this already starts requiring readers to be handy with the tissues.
There are some triggers here: child death, drug addict father, kidnapping, and someone is drugged. These might be upsetting to some readers. Obenhaus doesn’t linger on them, and treats the subjects with reverence and respect. There is also mention of an “affair”. This involves a side character who is deceased prior to the events of the book
Obenhaus throws readers right into the story will Alli returning to Hope Crossing for a few reasons. Her old job being one of them.
But, Alli also has her own past to deal with – part of that soon becomes her present – Jake, widower and single father to two kids. The history between them is that he stood her up on a date in high school because of his friends – she’s never let him apologize, and hasn’t forgiven him. She absolutely won’t forget.
This becomes problematic when Alli is in the nursery at the church, reading to the children, and Jake’s daughter Maddy wants her to be the new nanny. I have to admit, the little girl on the cover looked mischievous.
Jake relents and asks Alli after two candidates don’t seem to measure up. Allie refuses, apologizes, accepts. Then, it is Jake who refuses. This prompts his mother to ask him “have you lost your marbles?”. I never laughed so hard. He apologizes and the two enter into an agreement.
It isn’t long until Jake wants to rekindle at least their friendship. Alli isn’t even sure of it, but finally forgives Jake. It is the forgetting that seems to be the issue. She doesn’t want to give me a second chance at breaking her heart.
It is clear the family and house needs structure.
Jake wants to re-earn her trust, but Alli can’t afford letting him back in.
She doesn’t judge the way they’ve been living, and as she notes – structure is the least of one’s worries when they’re in survival mode. Obviously, Jake and his mother have been in just that.
Seeing Alli’s “success” with not just the kids, but his house, makes Jake feel like a failure, but Alli is supportive of him as she understands what he has been through.
The two do get closer as friends. In honoring his pact to Alli to be truthful, Jake reveals a secret about his wife Bethany’s last few weeks alive. He isn’t the grieving widower the town thinks he is. Allie confides about failing a little girl – though in reality, it was the court system.
Alli’s past comes back to her when she runs into the mother of the little girl she failed. And, Jake has his own run-in when his in-laws want to visit. As it turns out, Jake’s father-in-law doesn’t know how to tell him about Bethany.
As any good story goes, especially a second-chance romance – there are the will they/won’t they moments, the “oh just forgive and kiss” moments, the natural disaster, a wedding, and even a “shock” incident in this read.
Obenhaus doesn’t hold back on evoking every emotion possible from the reader, keeping them reading until the very end. That made this, for me, literally a “day” read, and I couldn’t put it down.
I was drawn right in from the first page. The packing was such that it didn’t linger, but it didn’t feel rushed either. There was a slight “typo” towards the end of the book with “Maddie” instead of “Maddy”. That really didn’t hinder the story though. And, I’m definitely on board to read book #4 this fall/winter.
I did have a slight issue with the Tonya storyline. Without spoiling it, as soon as she showed up, I had a BAD feeling about her. I just KNEW there was going to be a problem. I didn’t know what it would end up being, but I had “that” feeling. Each time she showed up, I was really worried.
When the “incident” happened, I was left wondering what her real motives were and how long she’d planned. It did seem like a weak part of the story. Obviously, given the line, nothing sinister can happen – but, I was wondering what she really wanted. Her inclusion and the eventual “climactic event” was definitely an interesting part of the story though.
And, like she usually does – Obenhaus weaves a beautiful story that will move readers to tears with occasional laughs along the way. She makes the town and people feel like a place we all know, and friends we can’t wait to see.
Being from Texas, I loved the mentions of Blue Bell ice cream (which we got and lost for a while here in Nevada) and Whataburger. I haven’t had a burger from there since 2005. I kind of related to Alli eating three (3) pints of ice cream. Most I’ve EVER done was one (1) in a sitting – that was Häagen-Dazs’ Chocolate Chocolate Chip.
Since this is part of a Christian themed line, it will have references to the Christian faith and mentions of scripture along with other faith elements.
Fans of the author are absolutely going to enjoy this read.
The first book I read of the author’s was the fifth book of her Rocky Mountain Heroes series, Her Rocky Mountain Hope in January 2020. I was moved, to the point of tears, by her writing that I added the first four books in that series to my TBR list. They’re still on that list (I promise I’ll get to them … “someday”). But, I have since read all four books in the Bliss, Texas series and the first book in this series. The second book is on the TBR list as well.
As with any book series that has is set in the same town, and has reoccurring characters, it is ALWAYS best to read the books in order.
While this book centers on Alli Krenek, her father Bill and step-mother Francie return. Readers will recognize Francie as Gloriana’s mom (The Cowgirl’s Redemption). Also returning from book #1 is Kyleigh and Justin. Hawkins and Annalise from book #2 (A Christmas Bargain) return, along with a sweet wedding.
Like most of Obenhaus’ books, she doesn’t shy away from tough subjects. Giving Alli a former job as a CPS Case Worker definitely steps up to the difficult. Adding to that her perceived failure from a child’s death in an abusive situation, this already starts requiring readers to be handy with the tissues.
There are some triggers here: child death, drug addict father, kidnapping, and someone is drugged. These might be upsetting to some readers. Obenhaus doesn’t linger on them, and treats the subjects with reverence and respect. There is also mention of an “affair”. This involves a side character who is deceased prior to the events of the book
Obenhaus throws readers right into the story will Alli returning to Hope Crossing for a few reasons. Her old job being one of them.
But, Alli also has her own past to deal with – part of that soon becomes her present – Jake, widower and single father to two kids. The history between them is that he stood her up on a date in high school because of his friends – she’s never let him apologize, and hasn’t forgiven him. She absolutely won’t forget.
This becomes problematic when Alli is in the nursery at the church, reading to the children, and Jake’s daughter Maddy wants her to be the new nanny. I have to admit, the little girl on the cover looked mischievous.
Jake relents and asks Alli after two candidates don’t seem to measure up. Allie refuses, apologizes, accepts. Then, it is Jake who refuses. This prompts his mother to ask him “have you lost your marbles?”. I never laughed so hard. He apologizes and the two enter into an agreement.
It isn’t long until Jake wants to rekindle at least their friendship. Alli isn’t even sure of it, but finally forgives Jake. It is the forgetting that seems to be the issue. She doesn’t want to give me a second chance at breaking her heart.
It is clear the family and house needs structure.
Jake wants to re-earn her trust, but Alli can’t afford letting him back in.
She doesn’t judge the way they’ve been living, and as she notes – structure is the least of one’s worries when they’re in survival mode. Obviously, Jake and his mother have been in just that.
Seeing Alli’s “success” with not just the kids, but his house, makes Jake feel like a failure, but Alli is supportive of him as she understands what he has been through.
The two do get closer as friends. In honoring his pact to Alli to be truthful, Jake reveals a secret about his wife Bethany’s last few weeks alive. He isn’t the grieving widower the town thinks he is. Allie confides about failing a little girl – though in reality, it was the court system.
Alli’s past comes back to her when she runs into the mother of the little girl she failed. And, Jake has his own run-in when his in-laws want to visit. As it turns out, Jake’s father-in-law doesn’t know how to tell him about Bethany.
As any good story goes, especially a second-chance romance – there are the will they/won’t they moments, the “oh just forgive and kiss” moments, the natural disaster, a wedding, and even a “shock” incident in this read.
Obenhaus doesn’t hold back on evoking every emotion possible from the reader, keeping them reading until the very end. That made this, for me, literally a “day” read, and I couldn’t put it down.

This was a fantastic Contemporary Christian fiction book in the series. The story was believable and the characters heartwarming. I was able to read a copy of this book via Hoopla, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.

Alli had always considered Jake her best friend. So much so that she had begun to think maybe their friendship was turning into something more. Only to have her dreams crushed by one disastrous betrayal that changed everything in an instant.
Jake knew that Alli was his bestie and his feelings for her had definitely turned from friends to something more, but he allowed his younger self to be badly influenced by the “boys” that ended up with him embarrassing Alli in the worst of ways. It not only but distance between them but never gave those early feelings the chance to grow and bloom.
Now 17 years later, Allie is returning to Hope Crossing - her hometown. Her mom died of cancer 5 years ago and her father’s remarried. How will her homecoming be with find everything changed? She’s willing to give it a shot because her time working for Child Protections Services has left her emotionally drained – especially after the needless death of one little girl. She determined to start over working as a teacher. All she needs to do is to finish her studies and pass the test before finding her forever home with a new job. Hope Crossing is only a temporary stop over on the way to fulfilling her dream.

LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN is an amazing story that pulls you in with the characters as their pasts collide with the present. Each of the main characters have a very interesting past on their own. Combining them with the present and two adorable small children makes it a can’t put down read! Mindy Obenhaus manages to tell it all (past and present) seamlessly adding young love, forgiveness, adventure, honesty, danger, and real forever love all wrapped in a thread of faith that has you wishing for a place like Hope Crossing with neighbors like Allie and Jake. FIVE STAR reading for sure!
Although part of a series, LOVING THE RANCHER’S CHILDREN can most definitely be read as a standalone book. Although, after visiting Hope Cross, you may be wishing to visit there again through the other books in the series.

A touching story of healing, bonding, and hope . . .
This is the third book in the author's outstanding 'Hope Crossing' series. I have been fortunate to read and review all three of these books.
Alli Krenek is at a crossroads in her life. She has recently left her emotionally-draining career and moved back home to Hope Crossing to find herself and to heal. She knows exactly what she wants to do in the future, but she has some college coursework to complete before she can step into her new role.
Jake Walker is the single father of two children who is trying to find his footing after the floor drops out from underneath him and his children. Four-year-old Maddy and two-and-a-half year old Connor are inquisitive, active children who immediately bond with Alli when she is their substitute nursery worker at church.
Awkwardness blooms for both adults when Jake and Alli are forced together as he arrives to pick up his children at the nursery after the church service. The author alludes to what ignited the uncomfortable tension between these two childhood neighbors and best friends, but the entire story is not revealed to readers until the author is ready to share it.
Gradually, the pair begins warming up to each other; and as they grow closer, Alli becomes more involved in the Walker family's daily life. She brings order to chaos by setting up routines, organizing the home, and stimulating the two children with creative activities such as reading, crafts, and gardening. Connor and Maddy soon grow to absolutely adore Alli.
An element of this author's writing that I appreciate is how she includes characters from her past books in her subsequent stories. This gives readers an opportunity to keep up with those memorable characters and observe how they grow in love and personally develop into the people God intends them to be.
With patience and kindness, Jake and Alli overcome many past regrets and pain to find the hope of a brighter future together. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this delightful, meaningful, and realistic story!
Highly recommended to fans of this genre. The book is completely clean in language and content.

I really enjoy LOVE Inspired books. The books are short, easy to read, and quick to read. Author Mindy Obenhaus is a favorite of mine. Loving the Rancher's Children by Mindy Obenhaus is Book 3 in the Hope Crossing Series. I have read the first 2 books in this series and have anxiously awaited the release of Book 3.
Alli Krenek has returned to Hope Crossing, the town she grew up in, after being away for 17yrs. She has worked for CPS for many years but has decided on a career change and will become a Teacher. WOW, this just might be the Sweetest Second Chance Romance book that I have read. I REALLY LOVE how Alli knew what she wanted in life and was on the road to achieving that. She allowed herself to put past hurts aside to approach Jake with a way to help them both. Jake is a wonderful character. I LOVE how he is in control of his Family Ranch while raising 2 young kids and recognizes that he needs help as he can't do it all by himself. I really LOVE how the author brings the 2 Childhood Friends together to help one another and they are able to mend their hearts from the past. I truly enjoyed Alli and Jake's story and their rekindling romance! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance. FANTASTIC BOOK!

Loving the Rancher's Children by Mindy Obenhaus is book #3 in the Hope Crossing series. I am so excited to visit Hope Crossing, Texas. If you love 2nd chances then this is a book for you! Happily, I love them. Allie Krenek has moved back home into the apartment above her dad's garage on her family's ranch. She plans to study to be a teacher. Their neighbor, fellow rancher Jake Walker, is a single dad and widower with two kids who need a nanny. Allie would be the perfect fit nannying to make money while she studies. The only problem is that Jake is her former best friend. A best friend who stood her up in high school for their first and only date. He's regretted it ever since, but unfortunately that one act ruined their relationship. Can these two former best friends work together for the sake of his children? Stranger things have happened!
OMS! I loved this book so much. I always love being in Hope Crossing. This time doesn't disappoint. I loved everything about it. It's definitely a book that you will read in one day. This book takes us back to the fictional Hope Crossing, Texas, a great place to visit and an 'idyllic place to grow up'. Alli and Jake were once neighbors and best friends but time and circumstances have a way of altering relationships, and Jake's actions certainly changed theirs. Seventeen years later, Jake is in need and we glimpse just how special Alli is. Setting her hurts aside, she agrees to help care for his two young children. Alli may have doubts about Jake but there's no question how she feels about Maddy and Connor!

Second chance stories are among my favorite books and this one, especially, was believable and sweet. Jake and Alli should have been together 17 years ago but Jake broke Alli's trust and neither one thought their relationship would ever get back on track. Jake has been married and has two adorable children. His former wife is dead and he's trying to be father AND mother to his kids plus run a ranch. He's dead on his feet although his mom is helping. But his mom is leaving for a trip and he needs help with his kids! Alli is back in her hometown short-term and surprises herself when she agrees to be the nanny for Jake's children. She's shocked to find out the lack of structure in Jake & the kids' lives. I really enjoyed how she wasn't afraid to change things up in their lives, and make it fun! That took courage! Maybe, just maybe, Jake & Alli will be able to heal their hearts while Alli is staying on the ranch. A thoroughly delightful story and a heartfelt one too! You feel Jake's anguish at his lack of control over his life and regret how he treated Alli 17 years prior. You also feel Alli's hurt of what happened to her when Jake broke her trust.

Engaging and heartfelt story of second chances and finding love in unexpected places.
Alli Krenek moves back to her hometown while navigating a career change, she unexpectedly accepts a job nannying for Jake Walker's two children, despite her complicated history with Jake. I liked that Jake and Alli were able to quickly move past what happened when they were kids, and develop an honest friendship. Allie is amazing with the children and does a great job giving them loving structure.
There was so much great interaction throughout, I loved how Alli and Jake shared a strong faith and were devoted to putting it into action in their lives. Jake's mom is also really supportive of Alli working with the kids. Alli is a wonderful caregiver, with a big heart for others.
Overall, a fully enjoyable read from beginning to end, I connected with the characters quickly and found that it ended far sooner than I wanted. A wonderful read!
