A Dickens Holiday Romance #17

The Winterland Waltz

Rate this book
In the quaint Christmas town of Dickens, love will always find a way…

Newly unemployed Kayley returns to her hometown, determined to rebuild her confidence for a better future. Oh, and to remain single until she can trust her instincts again. She’s convinced that won’t happen anytime soon.

Cynical and sensible; that’s the way forward for her. No more of her usual happy, caring, and open self.

Despite his decision to quit rescuing down-on-their-luck women, Nathan rents an apartment to Kayley, a jobless woman who seems lost and alone.

Almost immediately, Kayley lands the perfect job and wonders if the Christmas magic of Dickens is working for her as it has for her sister and their cousin. She begins to believe in herself again and in her prospects for a fulfilling future.

A part of her hopes that the appealingly handsome, kind, Nathan will be part of that future.

He’s determined to get the secret divorce he needs before he admits his youthful mistake to Kayley. It’s a private matter, a detail to be seen to, and while he feels guilty about keeping a secret, it’s for the best.

But when his long-lost bride arrives in Dickens, his secret’s exposed, tearing Nathan and Kayley apart. His Las Vegas mistake is hot on the trail of Nathan’s inheritance. Is it greed that brought her to Dickens or is she here to give her daughter a better life?

Nathan can only hope there’s enough Christmas love magic in Dickens to save all their futures…

This is book nineteen in A Dickens Holiday Romance Series and it is Kayley and Nathan's story. We are back in Dickens with a book full of twists and turns, ups and downs and then add in a sprinkle of holiday magic but will it work for Kayley and Nathan who are great characters, are perfect together and deserve a happy ending but will they get it with all the scheming, trust issue's, secrets and betrayal, well you will just have to read this book to find out what the outcome will be for them. This book is definitely worth reading and a great holiday story that will make you believe that anything is possible and can happen in The Town Of Dickens so come along for the holidays and meet these special people.

Kayley returns to her home town of Dickens after ending her romantic relationship and losing her job in New York. She rents an apartment from Nathan, and the magic of Dickens starts to do its work.
This was an absorbing, feel-good, family-orientated novel with some light suspense resulting from the past mistakes made by the main characters. Despite some obstacles that potentially derail Kayley and Nathan’s budding romance, open communication and the willingness to listen to one another help them to resolve misunderstandings and demonstrate empathy.
Nathan’s nosey spinster neighbours and the annual traditions of a small town increase the enjoyment and add to the interest level of this book.

Waltzing into Dickens Where Christmas Miracles Happen ...

Sit back, relax and enjoy this slow paced book full of Christmas allurement. And in the town of Dickens, love is in the air. But love is not easy, not when you’ve been betrayed more than once. Kayley’s past would haunt her for a long time. She seemed to attract, or rather be attracted to unfaithful men. She may have had the wool pulled over her eyes two times but no way would it happen again. But maybe, just maybe, third time will be charm.

Nathan has a really soft heart. Some would say gullible and easily exploited by women on the prey. So when he meets Kayley, he sees her suffering but trying hard to hide it. He knows she doesn’t trust him…. well, let’s just say he knows she’s wary of him…. Why? Because he’s a man and they are not to be trusted. And, to make matters worse, Nathan is hiding a couple of BIG secrets.

And yes, we have a HEA, but the journey there is the real story.

🤔 OBSERVATIONS

✒︎ This definitely is fiction, borderline fantasy in some areas.

✒︎ Although this is a slow burn book, there are parts of it that move too fast and need more development, more depth.

Kayley comes back to Dickens to start over. Her landlord? Nathan, who's busy renovating the property he just inherited. She's determined to get back on her feet on her own terms. He's trying to not be her "fixer". And they both have secrets. Add in a couple of busybody matchmaking neighbors who are certain that Kayley and Nathan are perfect for each other, even if she's a bit too old. Dickens works its Christmas magic on them. This is a sweet Christmas story, part of the Dickens series, but can be read as a standalone.

Kayley has moved back to Dickens after a bad breakup. She needs to make a new start. Her family lives in Dickens, but Kayley needs some space of her own.

Nathan is the proverbial knight in shining armor. He has a penchant for rescuing damsels in distress. He senses Kayley may be in distress, but is not going to go into rescue mode since his friend keeps calling him out for the behavior.

With matchmaking neighbors trying to get Nathan and Kayley together, Kayley hatches a scheme that may end up backfiring...

Kayley and Nathan both have a past of choosing the wrong person and know they need to be wary going forward and do so with each other. I loved how Kayley was standing on her own two feet after everything that had happened and Nathan making sure he doesn't try to rescue a women again (with the help of his best friend Coop) Whilst they slowly build a relationship which is debateable if the matchmaker oldies next door had a hand in, you know things are brewing with resolving a past mistake for Nathan.
You get some good angst, sweet romance, supportive friends and townsfolk, a bit of heart ach and a happy ending with a surprising twist!.

Solid 3.5 stars for my review, I consider anything above 3 stars a good book to read. This book was a perfect quick read for the upcoming holiday.
I enjoyed getting to know the main characters and how they came back from bad decisions in previous dating relationships. They were likeable and started with a great meet cute.
I found the ending a bit rushed but still would recommend this book to friends, family and my book clubs . It’s a perfect read for the holiday season.

I love this series in Dickens. Kayley is starting fresh as a single mom. Nathan has some mistakes to take care of. These two don't seem to come together but they do. I liked this story and am looking forward to reading more from Bonnie.

Another great book in the Dickens Holiday Romance series. This one brings a sweet romance between Kayley and Nathan. The author does a great job building the story and kept me reading with all of the twists and turns along the way. It's well written with descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is a beautiful love story.

Release day and I'm already seeing questions about which character will get the next romance set in Dickens. I have two to choose from and it's a toss up. Or maybe both. Hmm.

I hope the winners of the Kindle giveaway are enjoying Winterland. It is full of twists and surprises and of course, the hero is the worst possible man for a woman like Kayley.

And "worst possible" love interests are my thing. There's nothing more fun for me than figuring out who would be the hardest person to commit to. Heh heh heh

Happy reading! And please, share your thoughts on the story if you can find a spare moment at this most wonderful (read busy) time of year!

This short book took me forever to read, because I just wasn't that into it. I feel bad saying it, but it just didn't capture my attention.

Also, it wrapped up so weirdly. There are spoilers coming, but I hate hiding my review for spoilers, so just stop reading now if you don't want to know any more.

I liked that Rainbow has changed because adults do change (not everything is good and evil), but even Nathan being the one who always wants to help people, it felt odd that he just accepted that she had changed so quickly after she literally DRUGGED HIM AND MANIPULATED HIM TO MARRY HER?!? I don't know. Maybe because I'm a woman I wouldn't forgive someone that quickly who drugged me, but it all felt a little forced for a good storyline in the end. Especially the part of them convincing Rainbow and Feather to stay in Dickens for Christmas and help pay for schooling, etc. Nah.

I also was completely taken aback by the proposal! That was wild and unearned. That's all I'll say about that part.

I also thought it was funny that they made the centerpiece this dance marathon and then spent 5 minutes there as the backdrop for the proposal.

I know it sounds like I hated this book. I didn't. I just wouldn't recommend it.

*I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway.*

Kayley and Nathan’s story is rather sweet with a touch of angst and a few twists. Both have not had much luck when it comes to love. Their hearts are wary and guarded, but a few well-meaning matchmakers are determined to have them become a couple. Nathan has a history of rescuing damsels in distress and he senses that Kayley needs some help. His friends have challenged him to keep his saviour tendencies under wraps after his last attempt ended terribly. Kayley is determined to stand on her own and to avoid more pain that always seems to find her when she tries to date or be in a relationship. She is not looking for anyone to come to her rescue as she tries to make a new start after another relationship disaster. Even so, Nathan and Kayley find they have a connection, an easy rapport that slowly leads to deeper feelings despite their lingering trust issues. Yet, Nathan has some secrets that could very well end any chance of a future with Kayley. Read this very engaging book to see how their story continues to unfold.

What a perfect book to read at Christmas (or, really, any time)! With the help of some nosy but adorable match-making neighbours, Nathan, the sweet and lovable hero and Kayley, a strong yet still vulnerable heroine, work to overcome some difficult personal obstacles on their path to finding lasting love. Set in the charming small town of Dickens, The Winterland Waltz will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit.

This is part of the Dickens Holiday Romance series by multiple authors. It is a sweet holiday romance set in Dickens. The characters are realistic and flawed but make for an interesting flow between them. Love the family ties. A great holiday story.

Just like watching a holiday Hallmark movie

For anyone who likes Hallmark rom-coms, this is a lovely simple romance of two people recovering from past mistakes. Three stars for a lovely book that isn't going to win any great literary awards or make you think too hard.
