Rough Edges #3

Devouring Sin

Rate this book
Skyler (Sky) Teagan
28, damaged, burlesque dancer… that is when I’m not breaking into people’s houses or knocking them unconscious at dinner parties.

I’ll be the first to admit it. I’m damaged. I have issues. I have a lot of pent-up anger and hostility, especially when it comes to bullies or guys who try and exert their dominance over me. Take this guy Patrick for instance. Yes, he may be a scary Irish thug with an eight-pack and muscles the size of my head, but I’m the expert gymnast who knocked him unconscious and left him tied naked to his bed.

Patrick O'Maley
31, Irish, professional torturer… well, I prefer “Information Extractor”, sounds less brutish and medieval.

Hey, it’s not my fault! When a child grows up knowing only pain and betrayal, can you really blame him when he grows up to become a monster? I like pain. I’m good at making people scream. Those unlucky enough to join me in my playroom, quickly discover that there are only two ways their visit will end; one with the loss of blood and broken bones, the other with the loss of their life.

But when a secret I’ve kept hidden all these years, brings me to the City of Sin, I can’t help but face my greatest challenge; a feisty little burlesque dancer wearing a sexy mesh top and tight leather pants. Oh, don’t be fooled. Under that silky smooth skin and gorgeous blue eyes, lives a dangerous and vengeful predator. One just as damaged as me, and just as sexy.

This is a MM thriller/dark romance filled with plenty of heat, steam, violence, and mayhem.

This is the 3rd book in the Rough Edges series, this can be read as a stand alone but you will miss out on loving the other characters if you don’t start on book 1!!!

I have been waiting for Patrick to get his book, Matthew did not disappoint!

Ahh my Paddy finally got his HEA and I can’t be more please for him! He’s a complex man with a lot of trauma but he’s also got a heart of gold! Love him so much!!

We got to see the rough and the smooth side to Patrick and learn about his young life and how he become the man he is today, and although his scary side comes from being raised by his father and the underworld, his softer side is due to the love and friendship he has between Mickey and Dominic and his found family.

In this book we see Paddy go help out his brother who was framed for something he didn’t do, it brought up a whole lifetime of memories for him and Ollie, but family comes first and he will do anything to make sure Ollie is taken care of. In his trip to help his brother he finds himself a hot, crop top wearing burlesque performer that don’t take none of his bulls@it!!!

Skyler is on a mission of his own, he’s determined to find the truth about what happened to his family, when he comes face to face with a large Irish brute who is literally on top of him!! But nothing with stop him getting the evidence he needs not even this big hunk of beefcake! Turns out they are able to help each other out in more than one way (yum)

I love these two men, both savage but in their own way and they are perfect for each other, they are the right amount of sexy, smart and snarky, (the 3 S’s) IYKYK 😉 they balance each other out and fill the voids neither of them knew they needed!!
I love a found family they are the best kind.

After the first two books, I was really excited to see Patrick's story and this did not disappoint. But as much as I love the enforcer of the O'Brien gang, and all his deviousness and debauchery, I think Skyler might be my favorite character in the series.
I knew that it would have to be someone special to tame Patrick into a one-person man, and Sky was the perfect match. I love the way these two meet, both breaking into the same house and Skyler takes Patrick by surprise. And then when we see Sky again- that might be my favorite scene of the series.
Besides the building relationship between these two haunted and determined people, is this really fun story of revenge, vigilante-ism, family, and brotherhood.
Matthew Dante did an incredible job with this series and the characters he developed. Family- by blood or by choice is the heart beat of this series, even more than the romances. And you really feel the strong connection the three main characters have, and how they draw others in too. Once you're in, you're in.
But the romances are also amazing. In the dark and seedy underworld this series takes place in, we also get lots of fun heat, but really beautiful tender moments of people getting to let their walls down with that one special person who sees them for all that they are.
The Rough Edges series has definitely left an impression and I highly recommend it

“…We aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. All we have for certain is today.”

This series keeps getting better and better! Devouring Sin, book 3 in Matthew Dante’s Rough Edges series, was amazing!! 👏🏻👏🏻

I have fallen in love with the O’Brien crew and their better halves (BH’s!!). Patrick has been my fav since the beginning so I’m thrilled we finally got his story. This guy is wild, flashy, and full of heart. Skylar is the perfect partner for Patrick, evening him out but also giving him the passion he needs. These two are explosive! 🥵🔥🙌🏻

Similar to the first two books, book 3 delivers an action-packed story that takes the reader on a wild ride. I love the found family part to this series, as the O’Brien crew knows how to take care of their own. 👏🏻🖤

I don’t want this series to be over yet…maybe a book 4??!! I need more from this crazy, lovable crew! 🖤

Patrick “Paddy” O’Maley at the age of nine found himself abandoned by his Mother, Marie. Along, with his younger brother Oliver, Patrick watched as they both drove away. He was left to live his life with an abusive father, Liam O’Maley, and later moved to Jersey. Even with life being cruel to Patrick, he made two needed connections with Mickey and Dominic. Mickey’s father was the notorious crime boss, Clive O’Brien and Liam was one of his low-level thugs. But a solid friendship grew between: Mickey, Dominic and Patrick.

Patrick is an enforcer of pain, he lives his crazy out of control life style to the fullest. He’s definitely a bad boy and doesn’t blink an eye while inflicting pain on those that deserve it. But lately something is missing in all the sex and drug parties. His life starts to change, when he gets a call from Ash. Ash has been keeping Patrick well informed for years about his younger brother, Oliver. He hasn’t seen Oliver in twenty years. Now Oliver has been incarcerated for murder of their Mother and Patrick is seeing red. He’s left town without a word to Mickey or Dominic. He’s been keeping his brother a secret, he doesn’t want him in the life that Patrick now has with the O’Brien Crew. He fears that his enemies would use Oliver against him if they found out about him.

Skyler Teagan, had a wonderful life and loving parents. But those parents were taken away from him at the age of ten. He faced bullying and humiliation in school and only two women tried to do the best they could: Aunt Louis and Ms. LeBell a teacher. Skyler keeps his past life very private and doesn’t share. He’s also seeking revenge that leads him to a man named Eric Miller.

Patrick and Skyler will find themselves face to face as they go after Miler. As nothing seems to surprise Patrick can Skyler’s talents shake him? Will they join forces or become each others competition ? Will Oliver be convicted? When they find the man, who’s really behind the issues, what will it all boil down too?

Matthew Dante creates another tale of men that have grown up with rough edges. He delivers “Devouring Sin” Patrick O’Maley’s story, which I really looked forward to. Patrick’s partying and sex-capades have always been extreme and out of control. He’s also the expert at “wet work” for the O’Brien crew. In my opinion there’s still some under the surface emotions for Patrick. It’s a psychological effect for Patrick and what he faced: abandonment and betrayal at a young age. He still has a hard time realizing his Mother was escaping an abusive man. If she didn’t leave when she did life would have been no different living with an abusive husband and father. Unfortunate as it was, Patrick still paid the penalty for his Mother and brothers escape. One thing Patrick did was keep track of his brother Oliver and never failed to help him in an anonymous way.

Skyler Teagan was robbed of a life that could have lead to so much love. He had loving parents and good memories but they were taken from him too soon. Even his loving Aunt Louis tried her best for him. But his experience in boarding school taught him to be invisible and to escape the abuse from those who believed they were so much better than him. Skyler keeps his private life to himself, so he’s a mystery. But he has a talent that is beyond exciting.

As always, the O’Brien Crew has a support system: Mickey O’Brien and his better half Seth; Dominic and Scott. I give recognition to Ash as he did so much to help Patrick and Oliver who finally reunites with Patrick.

“Devouring Sin” was another fast paced, action packed, tale of suspense and danger, and just a touch of mystery, along with two men who will find each other. Matthew Dante continues with another “Rough Edges” story that does not disappoint. He never fails to always bring the most unique and dangerous men together with their fabulous mates. He always brings out the vulnerable, emotional and caring side to all his “Rough Edges” men. I’m excited about the next “Rough Edges” story, it’s sure to be another added gem to this series.

Loved It!

After reading Micky and Dom’s stories I was desperate to read Patrick’s and it was everything I hoped it would be.

There are not many authors who could take three tough guys from an Irish mob, into drug running and murder and make them into lovable characters with marshmallow centres, who love fiercely, are closer than blood brothers and when they find their forever loves there is nothing they wouldn’t do for them.

This is Patrick’s story and we find out just what happened to him as a child to shape him into the ruthless executioner he is now and the events broke my heart. Patrick has a younger brother and he found him some time ago and has been keeping an eye on him. When Patrick gets word that Ollie is in big trouble and has been arrested he doesn’t hesitate to fly to Vegas to help him out.

Most of this book is set in Vegas and this is where Patrick meets his match in Skyler, a beautiful burlesque dancer who can do crazy things with fire. He also has a brilliant criminal mind. When he crosses paths with Patrick on a job the huge wall of Irish muscle doesn’t faze Sky at all and Patrick is put in his place, on his a**!

Of course there is no way Micky and Dom would let Patrick face his demons on his own and there is the usual love, fun and wicked banter between the brothers. Matthew’s writing is so clever that even when Patrick is doing his “day job” there is amusing dialogue to lighten the scene.

Patrick and Sky are brilliant together and sparks fly straight away. The slim, supple dancer with years of gymnastics training is a temptation Patrick cannot resist and the fact that Patrick’s CV would list torturer and executioner actually turns Sky on meaning these two are a match made in heaven.

Not sure if this is the last book in the series but I really hope not. The epilogue leaves the door open for another brilliant book with Micky taking centre stage and appearances by all the other lovable characters.

Loved it♥️♥️♥️

Well, well, WELL😈 Matthew Dante has had one killer of a year, absolutely slaying with his new series ROUGH EDGES 🙌 If you think this latest instalment is a sweet Christmas read, you better buckle up buttercup, cuz Mr. DANTE has packed up all the naughty stuff in this one, completely skipping on nice. The boys are BAD through and through, and i wouldn't have it any other way.😈
We all love Patrick, okay? Honestly, is there anything hotter than a bi dominant hunk of a guy who has psychopathic tendencies and is very much fond of inflicting pain.😈 Not to mention his penchant for high fashion and the finer things in life.💜
Enter Skyler, a ferocious, out for vengeance athletic dancer, and you get your whole world rocked by the steam these two churn up.😈 Their chemistry is off the charts, and their attraction is instant. 🤌💜😈
Skyler is the perfect man for Patrick - his desire to bring justice to those who had wronged him at any and all cost, fit perfectly with the ruthless way Patrick is ready to dive into his violent ways to get what he wants. 💜
Together, they are darkness and fire intertwined, beauty and beast, vengeance and retribution. I absolutely love them as a couple and individuals. These two not only had intense chemistry, but gorgeous character arc and a rich back story. The added detail only made me fall in love with them harder. 💜
In this instalment, you can expect hilarious banter, the gang making lots of appearances, found family goodness, and a lot of thrilling action.💜
Absolutely loved it!💜

Devouring Sin is the third book in the Rough Edges dark romance series. Each book in this series focuses on a Irish crime syndicate. I have been desperately waiting for Patrick's book because he has undoubtedly been my favourite character in the previous books. I love his kick ass and take names attitude. This book was everything I had hope for and more and I loved getting to see Patrick's life experiences and the many many layers that have made him the man he is today. The mystery/whodunit storyline was so exciting and a perfect backdrop to a super sweet & heartfelt reunion with his estranged little brother. I absolutely adored Skylar he was so perfect for Patrick and he really brought out the best in him. I love seeing his jovial and sweet side under that steely/hard exterior. Skylar's story was heartbreaking and I just wanted to wrap him in my arms and whisper how beautiful he is inside & out. Matthew knows how to sucker punch us with these deep storylines amongst violence and steam. I loved having Mickey & Seth back in tow and seeing them so in love. I am absolutely living for this little brotherhood of misfits and all the comedy that comes with them. particularly when they are being wind-up merchants with eachother. I can't wait for the next book in this series it is absolutely brilliant.

In Devouring Sin, book three of the Rough Edges series, we find out that Paddy, Patrick O’Maley, had a little brother before he was left behind with his abusive father. Reading those pieces of Paddy, be still my heart. And that is where this story begins, in Paddy’s past or rather when his past comes pounding into present.

Welcome to the land of Sin City where the majority of Devouring Sin takes place. Not only does Patrick go running to his little brother’s rescue, he manages to run into his own future. Skyler, Lord of Fire, burlesque dancer, and clever criminal is on his own mission. He doesn’t have time for a handsome man that pushes boundaries and uses his muscles to get what he wants. That’s the only reason he knocked Paddy on his a$s. Say again?! Our brawny enforcer taken out by a lithe dancer? Oh yes, but Sky decides to help Paddy and Ollie out of their predicament.

And that my friends is the beginning of Paddy and Sky’s adventure together. These two were meant to be from the moment they met. There was magic for them, they softened each other. Here is a quote from Patrick to Sky, “But I have to admit, that my favorite has to be your eyes. Looking into those, I feel at peace. Like I could swim in them all day.” I don’t know if there will be more books in the Rough Edges series, but I do know that there are still a few books by Matthew Dante that I have yet to read. 😊

This is the third in the series but it probably can be read as a standalone even though I feel like it was to my advantage to have read the previous two stories.
This story centers on Patrick and Skylar but also Ollie. There are also characters from the previous books that contribute to this story. This story really gives the details for Patrick’s childhood after his mom left and of Skylar’s life when he was left alone. When they meet, they have an instant attraction even though they are so different. Patrick’s softer side starts showing and Skylar’s learning to be friends with others develop. So much comes out about Skylar’s parents and also while all this information is coming out more and more is being told about Patrick’s mom. There is actually quite a bit to laugh about especially where Skylar leaves Patrick cuffed. In the next paragraph there is a very serious side to the story. I have been really enjoying this series and can’t wait for the next story.

Another great book in this series

Quite often I read a series excited by the first book but then find the later books don’t live up to the first one. That’s definitely not the case here. Every one of these books have been amazing.

This one in particular gives us so much with the characters of Patrick and Skyler. They are well matched in life and in bed. The plot for too is fantastic. The pace is quick and we get a lot of satisfaction for how things turn out.

Patrick has always struck me as a rather free individual. He does what he wants when he wants and he enjoys the finer things in life. At the same time he has zero issue with torture and brutality.

Skyler is so solitary. He enjoys a bit of danger and can hold his own against a big brute man. But no one gets to see the real him.

Watching the sparks fly and both opening up to each other was a delight.

Two of a Kind

So I'm totally addicted to the O'Brien family. Patrick, the enforcer for the family, finds out his brother, who's been living in Vegas, has been accused of killing their mom, well Ollie's mom, because Patrick refuses to acknowledge her as she abandoned him in the middle of the night to escape his dad. While there he meets Skyler, a burlesque dancer, who leaves Patrick tied up after a night of sex. Skyler is on his own mission to find who killed his parents when he was a child. They eventually team up to make the bad guys pay. Steamy, animalistic sex, gratuitous violence, non stop action, and plenty of humor round out this book. I loved this series and will definitely read it over and over. I'm so glad Matthew includes an epilogue with each book. I highly recommend this series and would love for it to continue with maybe a wedding book.

unmasked and found

💕 A fantastic double story that follows not only Patrick and Skylar’s love story, but Patrick’s reconnection with his little brother.
Every scene with Patrick and Sky are electric and sometimes terrifying. In Sky, Patrick has finally met someone who meets his crazy and I was all down for it.
I love Sky’s character. A gymnast, a burlesque dancer, a fire god, and a lover of pain. Both receiving and inflicting. He is no simple character. Their relationship starts out rocky, until they realize they are just part of the same whole.
Reconnecting with his brother Ollie is a a beautiful and moving side story. Full of longing, missed years, and a loving brotherly bond that transcends all.
With Patrick, Ollie and the crew, Sky finds the family he needed and allows his mask to fall.

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE OF THE SERIE ❤️

Patrick & Skyler have my heart forever ❤️
Patrick and Oliver story just made me cry and I wanted to give a hug the whole time to them.
I love how the story is realistic, with how Patrick reacts to what happen to his mom and how he deals with his emotion~ he has every right.

Skyler is my new cinnamon roll and I just love him.
Both are psychos and they make the ultimate boss couple, love and love ❤️
I love how equal their relation is.

I enjoy that each character come back from their books ~ love seeing Mickey, Dom, Seth, Scott, Brody and everyone ❤️

My first book of 2023 started off with a bang (or several 😏) thanks to Matthew Dante and the third book of the Rough Edges series, Devouring Sin.

This time around it’s Patrick’s story, a memorable character who has appeared in the previous installments, and the highlight of this book is experiencing him as a fully human character, getting to understand his background, insecurities, and the tenderness hiding underneath his tough exterior.

By now if you have read this author’s work you’ve most likely tuned in for the spice and steam, and there is plenty of that here, written in glorious, blushing detail, and nearly makes my e-reader screen explode. This time I was more taken by the continued exploration of childhood trauma and the way it shapes adulthood, relationships, and personal choices as well as the continued inclusion of found family and unconditional love among Patrick and his crew.

Patrick’s love interest, Skyler, was a worthy addition to this group of characters. I found his vulnerability refreshing amid all the mystery and darkness that is the main plot of this book, and enjoyed his performance scenes and interactions with Seth, Mickey, and, of course, his budding relationship with Patrick.

The mystery/suspense plot line was well developed and accessibly written, being engaging enough without getting too into itself and bogged down with extraneous detail. I particularly appreciated Patrick and Ollie’s development and how everything was tied into the thriller aspects.

So, read it, it’s a winner, my favorite of the series so far, a great kick off to this year of reading, and so much fun from start to finish.

What a beautiful book. This is definitely my favourite of the Rough Edges series for many reasons.

Matthew’s writing in this was flawless, he merged alpha extremes with vulnerability and sweetness perfectly.

I loved Patrick from the first book and I was actually surprised in how much depth you get from him in this, he is an open book with a lot to tell.

Then there is Skyler who shocked me the most, I didn’t expect to fall so hard for Sky, he is a complex man with so many barriers and fears, but at the same time is this strikingly sexy and clever minx who will not let anyone bring him down.

Together this couple were absolute perfection. Skyler’s character is so unique and it was needed to ground someone like Patrick and make the character more “real”, as not just anyone could lockdown our hot as hell Paddy.

The plot was great and while there was a lot of story to this, it felt like a super chill read. It just worked so well. I felt all the emotion from humour to actually getting a bit emotional at one scene in particular. The steam as well was top level, not a surprise though with these 2 animals 😂

This series is just amazing and I highly recommend. Each book is so different, the characters are a family but they feel so individual.

I knew after I finished the first book I ever read by Matthew Dante that I’d love every book he ever wrote. I was not wrong. At all. He has this way of weaving a really good and suspenseful story with an epic love story. While you’re swooning, you’ll be on the edge of your seat wondering what could possibly happen next. Devouring Sin is no different.

Skyler is on a mission to discover the truth about what happened to his family.

Patrick is looking to help his brother after he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit.

When their lives collide in the City of Sin, their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS!

Skyler is simply not one to roll over and do everything he’s told. Which infuriates Patrick as much as it turns him on.

This book is filled with as much vengeance, evil, and all out darkness as is with passion, lust, and love. I’m so happy I got to read it. Thank you so much to the author for writing such a good book. I hope you continue bringing the world to its knees with your writing. I’m so here for whatever comes next!

This is book 3 from the rough edges series and boy was it absolutely crazy 🤯 I mean come on.. we're talking about Patrick here. The man is a walking chaos himself. He's the man you call when things get so difficult that you have no other choice other than pain, blood and madness. He's literally your last resort.

Now Skyler. Fucking hell. He came off as a demanding asshole with his no nonsense attitude and literally didn't hold back his bluntness. Quite the opposite to Patrick I'd say, which created an interesting dynamic between the two.

Their interactions were to die for. One was pushing the other and I was in the middle telling them to screw already because I couldn't handle their attitude. 😈

This is definitely my favourite book from the series ❤️❤️

Who would have thought the professional torturer, ahem, I mean information extractor would be such a sweetheart.
Even before he meets Skyler Patrick shows us his caring side when he gets bad news relating to his younger brother.
The traumas experienced by Patrick and Skyler in their younger years shaped who they are now and who they are now are perfect for each other even if it takes Skyler a little longer to believe.
Found family is one of my favourites and this series sits right in there. While this could probably be read as a standalone I definitely recommend reading from book 1.

Skyler is on a mission to discover the truth about what happened to his family when he collides with the Irish beefcake. Paddy is looking to help his brother after he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit. When their lives collide the chemistry is electric. Passion ignites between them as they search for the evidence they need. Will they be able to get the answers they seek while building a relationship?

Patrick definitely became my favorite of this series. His tough guy exterior mixed with a pretty romantic fluffy interior made him a fun character in this world. Skylar was definitely his match in wits, personality, style, and attitude. This can definitely be read as a stand alone however Mickey and Seth are heavily present in this book.

it’s so fun

This is a super fun read. Found family is one of my favorite things and this book is full of it. You have some action and suspense along with some insta love/lust which is so adorable. Paddy and Sky both have had difficult childhoods that they are recovering from and it’s beautiful to see them find the love they need in each other.

Amazing book and series!!

I was highly anticipating this release because I have loved this series so much and I couldn't wait to hear Patrick's story!! And I was not disappointed as the sparks were flying from these two mc's from their first surprise encounter to the second and the next until they succumbed to the 🔥!!

Skyler was definitely a ball of fire with his prickly attitude in the beginning to his deadly vengeful one that we see throughout. I loved that he was a "take no crap" strong character that ended up being a perfect match for Patrick's cocky, enforcer persona. I also loved seeing Patrick's softer more vulnerable side with his brother, Ollie, and with how he wanted to be there for Skyler as well. Never fear though, his cocky, big ego, fun hilarious banter is still there in spades!! Plus we get to see the O’Brien crew pulling together for each other as always...the brotherhood seems to keep getting stronger and stronger!!

Anyways, I can’t recommend this book and series enough! If you like your romance a little darker yet with hilarious banter, great characters, action, suspense, and extra steamy...then this series is a must read!!
