If you have not been following the developments of AI and do not understand how it can enhance our cognitive abilities, this book does a decent job at describing the landscape past, present and future. Otherwise, there is nothing really ground-breaking for those in the know.
Divided into 8 chapters, the following are covered:
Chapter 1: The author explains his use of the term "evolutionary intelligence" (EI) to denote not just the technology but the human use of it. EI is defined as "the purposively structured technical mediation of human communication."
Chapter 2: Explores the visual, aural and tactile means of human–machine communication.
Chapter 3: How AI can correct our cognitive biases.
Chapter 4: Dangers of AI - privacy, social inequity and the atrophy of human capacities from dependence on technology.
Chapter 5: Looks at 4 historical roots of EI - the capacity for language, the capacity to settle on land rather than forage, the leverage of machine power, and the development of mass education and literacy.

الحمد لله
وبعد
هذا ثاني كتاب أترجمه هذا العام بحمد الله
وموضوعه مهم فيما أرى، وهو "الذكاء الآلي التطوري"، ويعني به صاحبه الذكاء التقني المستجيب لحاجات الإنسان الآنية، ونرى أهميته، وإن كنا لا نتفق مع صاحبه في الأصل الذي بنى عليه الكتاب(مرور الإنسان بأطوار من شبيه القرد إلى الإنسان العاقل)، بل ونراه أصلًا مقحمًا بغير سند. ولا ريب أن الرجل لم يرد الاستدلال على متنه وإنما رتّب على المقدمات، فجاء الكتاب حاشية على حقيقة يسلّم بها، وإن كنا لا نسلّم بها. أما وجه الفائدة عندنا فهي هذه الحواشي، أو لنقل الفروع على الأصل، فهذه التفريعات على نوع معين من الذكاء (سمه تطوريًا أو ما شئت من أسماء)، وهو الذكاء المتفاعل مع حاجات الإنسان، وأم الكتاب مشيّد على هذه الفكرة، وقد رأينا طرفًا منها في شات جي بي تي، وسيري، ونحو ذلك من المحاورات الرقمية، والكاتب يمد الفكرة ويستطرد فيها ويقترح صورًا لها أشد لصوقًا بحاجات الإنسان، وأقرب مأخذًا، وأرشد سبيلًا، وإن كان لم يخل قوله من شطحٍ بعيد، ولكن غالب المبتكرات بدأت بمثل هذا الخيال والوَهَم، وإن لم تستفد من هذه الزاوية استفدت من تأريخه لبوادر المخترعات، وانتفعت بالمعارف القيّمة في علم النفس التي تناولها بالنظر والشرح المستفيض، وفي كلٍ خير.
وهو في هذا يمر على زلات الإنسان التي تجعله يسيء التصوّر ويتحيز في حكمه، فيرصدها تباعًا ويقترح كيف نستفيد منها في تغذية التقنية، فتنبهنا بعد ذلك لها، وكذا يمر على التقنيات الحالية ويصوّر لها سبيلًا جديدًا، تتعلّم فيه الآلة عاداتنا وأحوالنا وتتكيّف معها بتعاقب الأيام، فهذه سيري الجديدة تعرف عاداتنا في الأكل، وهذا برنامج جي بي إس يتعلّم من تفضيلاتنا في الطرق والاختصارات، وهذه نظارة ترى الواقع -نفسه لا الواقع المختلق- ولكنه واقع مزيد بعلامات ومحددات تثري البيئة من حولنا صوب هذه النظارة، فترى مثلًا درجة الحرارة موقّعة على مجال الرؤية، وترى تخطيطًا للطريق أو معلومات عن شجرة معينة، وكأنه في آر متطوّر.
أما في ترجمتي للكتاب فقد حاولت أن أجانب عجمة الفِكر واللسان ما وسعني ذلك، وقد أصبت حينًا وزللت في أخرى، ورجائي أن ينتفع الناس بهذا الكتاب فنجد تطبيقًا لهذه الأفكار عندنا دون أن نظل عالةً عليهم، بل نطبقه بطريقتنا وعلى مذاهبنا في الفكر والنظر، إذ هذه الآلات وإن كانت في ظاهر الأمر تقنيات محضة، فإنها تحمل في طياتها فلسفات أصحابها وعلومهم ومداركهم وقياساتهم، وهيهات لمقلّد من المرامي البعيدة..
يعيب الكاتب أنه دقة قديمة، يكثر من السخافات ونكات البومرز غير المستظرفة ولا المستملحة
كذلك يعيبه الاستطرادات التي لا تأتي من أكاديمي، وإنما محلها المقاهي والمصاطب وحكايا الجدات
