“Gin and drugs, dear lady, gin and drugs.”
- T.S. Eliot
"...But sorrow here is subject to
The law of leaves, too soaked-into their
clumped-up mounds to ever blow away."
- Laurence Lillvik, "Fallen Poem", Tongues Tied to Anchors
I found Larry's thin book again
while moving offices, stashed,
buried under weight of slick mags,
a living trust, plus several layers
of file cabinet detritus&debris.
I tossed Larry's book of poems
there 3 years ago SO not to lose
it, but like keys, knives, and Jap-
anese pens, my books all run run
away like dry-mothed memories.
The well-hyphenated poems don't
disappoint, often surprise, but still
lack 80+ sized years of rewind to
find, a space at B&N where twisted
lines can support his Tanqueray 10.
Instead of verse we are given payola
radio songs, by over-hyped hipsters,
and well-oiled LA production duos,
while good poetry, typed on Under
wood's royalty starve Eliot's two cats.
