Sei’s new plants pack a punch, but her work is quickly derailed by the needs of the kingdom. A military campaign throws her life further out of whack and the price of fame might end up impacting her in ways she couldn’t predict…
Poor, poor Sei. It’s hard not to feel bad for somebody who just wants to do research and live a simple existence, but is ultimately blessed with powers far beyond those of even the kingdom’s best mages.
There’s a lot of fairly solid action in this one, as the western campaign involves a lot of the knights Sei is friendly with, including Albert, as well as the tag-along Grand Magus. Still, there’s less fawning over Sei and her just being there and taking it, which was a huge drag last volume.
It all goes about as you’d expect, but there are some good character moments. Sei’s line (and the art in this very brief sequence) about knowing glances was really good and the way the Grand Magus and Albert go at one another is pretty fun, although gussy it up all you want, it’s fairly clear that the Grand Magus is academically interested in Sei more than anything else.
However, everything goes awry when a much nastier threat than anticipated shows up and, amidst all this, Sei confirms for a much larger crowd than usual in a much more dramatic fashion that she is indeed the saint.
That knowledge upends everything as being the saviour of the land means a lot more deference and responsibility and it’s interesting watching Sei come to grips with that and the way the director of the institute has been quietly looking out for her desires as well as her obligations.
Of course, the real meat of this volume is Sei finally being reunited with Aira, the teenager who was summoned along with her from Japan, who had previously been proclaimed as the saint. It’s a big old verbal throwdown as some people are less than thrilled at the idea they might have been backing the wrong saint.
The drama is much less from Aira, who’s clearly just doing what she’s told to survive this strange place, but the obnoxious Prince Kyle, who might have been more than a little blinded by having a cute girl around. I really like the way the story portrays Aira - minus some of what we got last time, this story’s been pretty good to its female characters.
This section brings together all the main players, plus Liz, who it was great to see again, and it happily goes in some directions that don’t see the women all pitted against one another. Instead, we get a nice reminder that Sei is, in fact, a mature woman who has life experience and having her help Aira was a good choice.
Five volumes in and this series remains quite strong. Sei is the biggest draw and she’s so easy to cheer on as she tries to maintain a normal life and also amasses her pseudo-harem, even though it’s pretty clear that there’s really only one name in that mix with any chance.
4 stars - a solid effort and a nice and reliable bit of storytelling. There was some good stuff done with the narrative in this one and, another isekai or no, I like the way that the source material has been translated to this format.
This is much better than the last volume. Things were actually accomplished and we didnt have to sit through pages of exposition to get there. There was a bit of action, there was a little bit of building romance, and hopefully all that stuff with the prince has been taken care of. I am also relieved at how Aria was brought in to the main story, I was worried they would try and twist it to make her the villian. Icam looking forward to reading more, though I do hope that a overarching plot/conflict reveals itself soon.
I never thought there could be another series to capture the feeling I felt when reading Snow White with the Red Hair where I felt like I was hanging out with my best friends, and I'm just watching them thrive in their story.
Yet that is exactly what I felt when reading this volume! (Which definitely made me want to cry because it so beautiful!)
Truly, this series continues to get better and better as well as continues to be more of a delight to read!
Well minus the actions of Prince Kyle because UGH! That man is stupid stupid stupid and just wanted to pull at my hair because he frustrated and angered me so greatly! I was SO glad to see there was consequences for his actions (and those involved) because I absolutely can't stand his character (and the preposterous things he said no less)! He has ZERO excuse in my opinion and doubt anything would change my mind on that.
Moving on though, I really really really love these characters! Sei continues to not only be a deeply admiring character but one who is relatable as well. I've deeply enjoyed seeing her and the Director's friendship, but I feel that we really see this volume is just how meaningful that friendship is to both of them. (I would say that includes Jude too!) He is more then just the boss she works for, but someone who genuinely cares for her overall well-being. He does what he can for her while also challenging her even if he often is like, "What did you just do…?" LOL! It's fantastic and makes me so happy for Sei! <3
Also SIR ALBERT!!! *victory screech in excitement* We saw SO much more of him and was SO excited, even if the events in this volume were far from romantic! It was actually odd to see him NOT smiling since he usually is ALWAYS smiling around Sei. Not saying he doesn't smile this volume (because he does), but you can really feel the tension in the air with the upcoming campaign.
Talking about that, WOW! That was intense! And action-packed! I really felt Sei's nervousness and worry and was SO relieved she was okay! Won't say more on this but I sped through these pages! (Also seeing Grand Magus in his element was hilarious!! He really does love magic! LOL!)
The ending was so beautiful! I continue to love Liz more and more and truly appreciate how everything unfolded with a few characters. It was very rewarding and glad that there is no hate in this story among the main characters. <3 <3 <3
This is the natural conclusion of the first storyline. A lot of the storylines have peaked here and while there's still a lot left to be told, you can feel where everything is going and that it's stable.
The artwork in this volume was sweet, and I loved the battles with the monsters in the swamp. Yuri Drewes had some awesome facial expressions in this one.
This is going to be the end of my manga-reading for this series. I'm still going to keep reading the light novels, but given how each manga is about half a light novel, and given how I don't feel like buying 10 more volumes--I'll just keep reading the light novels. But it's been really good, and I've enjoyed it a lot.
Sei goes on a campaign with the royal knights and shows just how powerful she can be.
I continue to enjoy this series, largely because of Sei. She really just wants to be left alone to do research and create magical potions but her life continues to be less introverted than she would like. The relationship between her and Sir Albert has a nice little moment in this book thanks to the hair slide he gave her previously. I may actually try the light novels for this story.
While her experiment was a success, Sei struggles to figure out how to unleash that same power again. Fortunately, it comes when needed during her first expedition, and we finally get to see what the enchantment on her hair slip does as well. Returning to palace brings her face to face with both Aira and the prince though, and no one seems too happy with what the price is mouthing off about. Even the king finally has enough and steps in. Fortunately, it seems Aira was perhaps too meek in all things but is friendly enough and glad to work with Liz and Sei once the three of them are away from the prince. Hopefully they will continue to get along, especially given all of the confusion and rumors with the two girls both being summoned as Saints at the same time, though it seems most don't realize there are two of them unless they happen to see both of them.

I am really enjoying this. I'm glad that there is no ill will between Sei and Aira. I am glad that they are becoming friends. I was worried that Aira might have some resentment towards Sei. Atleast towards the end of this volume Aira's life at the academy is smoother now that things were cleared up. She even was helped on her career path which might be the start of the spinoff manga for her.
I'm curious if there will be a romance between Sei and Hawke. Sei's expedition in the forest was really cool too. I know Sei wanted a more peaceful life but it seems things are about to change.
EXCELLENT VOLUME!!! sei and the commander get a bunch of super cute romantic scenes (the hand holding to help her into the carriage!! the hair clip!! the slight jealousy!!), plus we actually get some action - sei is a total badass and goes into combat, healing/shielding and then saving the commander himself yet again. she then cleanses the scary swamp and taps into her saint powers....finally, she gets a true confrontation with that idiot prince, and then she and aira and liz get to bond!! I loved their tea party - so cute. I hope their friendship can blossom in the next volumes!

Sei gets conscripted to join the next campaign to the western forest. This coming shortly after she accidentally activated her Saint's Art for the first time to enhance some herbs. All I'm gonna say is I ship her and Albert so hard. I know, I'm a dingus, but this warm and fuzzy romance is my jam.
In other news, we get to see Prince Kyle be a dingus... again... in public this time. Oof.
Very good story progression! Each character is so good, like I enjoy each one because they bring something to the series even If it's to be nothing more than an annoyance.
I had to do a double take when I was reading, like about half a chapter in I was like, wait I've read this already? I remember this bit, forgetting I watched the anime between the previous volume and this, opps. Still great though!
Finally got around to reading this volume.... had it on my shelf for a week while the other volumes arrive... it was thrilling watching sei finally tap into her hidden power and it was even funnier that she didn't realise what triggers it.... yuri's reaction to finally seeing it had me giggling.... also i was really happy reading that last chapter. onto the next volume.
Sei is declared the Saint and does the Saint's Art in the Western Forest. The Prince's actions with Aira are called to task by the king. Sei's life will change forever, how will she maintain a small bit of normalcy at the institute. I am really enjoying these books.
Snapshot review: i enjoyed this one a lot more as we get more action with sei who is coming to terms with being a saint and getting comfortable with what that means for her, exactly. plus! we get to see more of aira-chan and some politicking relating to saviors. fun~
Best volume yet! We went into the forest and discovered new magic AND Kyle got the what for and the Japanese girls got to hang out. Captain Hawk was here, so all is well.
The real powers are starting to unlock now... Also this volume is the one that overlaps with The Other Saint. Also also, all of the characters are still so great, I love them all!
I love this series so much!! Honestly one of my favourites. I’m having such fun reading these - the anime is also really great! Such an excellent work of art.
Love that Sei keeps performing more and more powerful magic and just acts like it's no big deal. I also really liked getting to see more of Aira's character.
Milé postavy, milý příběh. Je to jako zachumlat se do teploučké deky. Žádné velké napětí, žádná velká akce, spíše takové posezení s dobrými přáteli, kteří nikdy nezklamou.
