Positively Purple: Build an Inclusive World Where People with Disabilities Can Flourish

Rate this book
"Most employers will have a workforce where at least 10% of their people will have a visible or invisible disability. And 86% of all disabled people acquire their disability during the course of their working lives. How can businesses create strategies and a company culture that includes all staff? Ensure that your company or organization doesn't become guilty of the soft bigotry of low expectations when it comes to disabled employees and customers. Learn from your disabled staff and consumers and be equipped to be a better and more dynamic organization. Kate Nash, founder of #PURPLELIGHTUP - a global movement which celebrates the economic contribution of employees with disability - will help you understand how any organization can ensure disabled staff and consumers are included and valued. Telling a fascinating story of how to make change happen and recognizing that any kind of transformation requires knowledge, determination and hard yards of campaigning, networking and deal making, you will learn how to build disability confidence throughout your organization. Positively Purple allows disabled workers to claim their rightful place centre stage as just another valuable member of the team"--

Full disclosure, I’ve had the privilege of a ringside seat to some of this and am privileged to be named in the acknowledgments… However, this is the most important book I’ve read this year- combining Kate’s open and honest telling of her personal story, a recent history of the disability movement in the UK with pure gold hints and tips for disability networks, allies and everyone who wants to maximise the impact of disabled staff on the organisation they work in (or should work in).

It will make you think, make you laugh and stare into the middle distance in contemplation.

As well as on here, I’ll be recommending to my senior champion, network Exec and allies (my purple friendly people) it’s that important!

Thank you Kate we all loved you before, we now owe you as well for making our jobs another notch easier!

Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Nash and Korgan Page LTD for allowing me to read this advanced copy.

This was a good, informative book. Would be best for employers, especially small businesses to read. Good ideas and resources. Was UK based and I am US based, so some agency differences but overall same message for the Purple community of disabilities.

Many thanks to Kogan Page for gifting me a proof copy of this book. A must-read for any disabled person in employment or looking to enter employment, as well as for managers and business leaders. A love letter to the importance of telling your own story and how much can be achieved by working together. A book packed with powerful statements and actionable advice, Positively Purple is truly life-changing
