Cassie Jones, the head of Jones' Post-Mortem Tracking Agency, has been cursed with a capital "C." Thanks to an unfortunate incident with an angry wizard, any guy she falls for is guaranteed to betray her. So when David MacDuff - the most mouthwatering man she's ever had the misfortune to meet - hires her to track his recently deceased brother, Gideon, she knows she's got to keep things strictly professional. Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Maybe she should have stuck to hunting vampires after all.
Cassie has been burdened with a curse for most of her life: any guy she falls for will eventually betray her. Let's just say her love life is complicated and things become even more so when she meets gorgeous David in order to locate his missing zombie brother.
When I first read the synopsis for this book, I was really excited. Cassie seemed like a protagonist with depth that I'd enjoy following through this story and the actual premise was similar to plenty of others I'd enjoyed in the past. It seemed like the full package…
I was very unfortunately mistaken. I found myself increasingly saddened to find that I didn't really enjoy any aspect of this book. The romance was far too insta-lovvy. Neither character showed any sign of chemistry so it was hard to imagine why they even liked one another. The mystery aspect also felt lacklustre, I understand twists and turns, but in this case, it just felt like circles. Not to mention how anti-climactic and rushed the ending felt.
I promise I went into this read in good faith, I really was expecting to enjoy it but I found myself disappointed around every turn. I think this book just needed to decide what it wanted to focus on at any one time: the romance or the mystery. Don't get me wrong, you can certainly have both, but a balance needs to be found so it doesn't feel so disjointed.
I volunteered to review a free ARC of this book for BookSirens.
First, let me say that I received an advanced copy of this book for free in return for my honest review.
While I quite enjoyed the premise of this book, my problem lies in the execution. This book is set after the Cataclysm event, where people suddenly gained magical powers or became werepeople. Zombies also became an issue. Cassie, the main character, is a zombie hunter. When she's approached by David, a wealthy man looking to find his zombified brother in order to return him to peace, she thinks the job won't be that hard. If only it wasn't for these pesky emotions… Cassie is under a curse, you see, and it turns every man that loves her into a jerk.
My biggest problem with this book is that the narrative jumps around. There's no clear focus. Cassie is supposed to be this big badass, but she spends most of the book whining because she's feeling things for her client. The focus lies far too much on this weak, generic romance and less on the actual interesting part of the book: learning about the cataclysm and the life of being a zombie hunter. Plus I think the author confuses love and attraction. no one falls in love immediately. Basing a whole plot on that feels gross and too much. I am all for escapism, but books that have the main characters immediately falling for one another in days just bug me. Even in a book about zombies and witches and such, it pulls me out of the narrative.
I also found the ending and resolution of this book incredibly weak. I wasn't satisfied with the ending and how soft it was. It brought my rating down from a 3.5 to a 2.5. Things like the big mystery of the book being something so small, a curse that is never fully explained or explored, and a clear and unsurprising villain worked against this novel to make it less of a fun, campy read and more of a chore to finish.
Wow. Im in trouble here. I was hesitating between 2 or 3. Let me tell you why. If it wouldnt have a much much more potential then its an easy 3… BUT it has a clear potential of being a 5 but been messed up big time. 1.) no clear understanding of the curse: it seemed like a small thing being overcomplicated and overthinked by the heroine therefore 2.) rather seemed the badass, zombie killin’ heroine as a whinnying idiot if she came around her love interest. E.g. if her story of why she thinks/knows its the real stuff would have been cleared from square one (maybe with a heartwrecking sad story) it wouldnt seem her like a superficial hysterics around Mr. The One…. 3.) wow the hero… honestly I couldnt make myself around him…. Maybe its just wanted to show his complex personality but honestly I wasnt able to put him to “likeble” but either too gentlemenly or suspitiously overprotective etc…. 4.) beside those butterfly and square one attraction I didnt really found much “positive” interaction between H&H that would conclude me into love of life experience…. 5.) ok we got a conclusion (almost…) but what happens after badboy awakes?!
So… all in all let down by the missed opportunity to have a better storyline (basis is still great)… I however liked so much Charles character (found him hilarious!) and Gideon…. (Even he appears 3-4 time max) Not much attachment to the others.
And luved the cover!!!

I wasn’t sure what to think when I started reading. There are so many stories out there with a paranormal plot and I was worried this would be just like the rest.
It was not, not at all
Cassie is a Zombie hunting Bad-a**. She’s had some good times and some bad times, one of those bad times resulted in her being cursed, and let’s just say that curse puts quite a damper on her love life. She’s got Ash, her best friend and biggest supporter, by her side through everything, but what she wouldn’t give to find that happily ever after with her Mr. Right.
Cue David: a gorgeous, Scottish billionaire who has a freaking castle!!! Seriously, a castle… in Scotland. He’s tracked down Cassie to hire her to find his brother, Gideon. Gideon unfortunately died in an accident, an event that Dave believes was planned out, and then returns a few months later with a mission and a level of determination that pushes him through anything that gets in his way.
After a lot of arguing and disagreeing, Dave and Cassie team up together, along with a few other characters who are introduced later on, and go about business trying to solve the mystery of what happens to Gideon and why Gideon had returned. Their dynamic together is flawless. There’s romantic build-up and a Se*ual tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. Cassie has comical inner dialogue, as well as a comical outer dialogue. Dave seems to know what he wants from Cassie, but like a true gentleman, he doesn’t push the issue. Cassie fights with her obvious attraction to Dave, trying tirelessly to convince herself that all she feels is lust.the adventure these two go on together is filled with action and a strong plot. There were more than a few moments where I thought I knew what was going to happen only to find out that I was way off. I love that it kept me guessing and wanting more. This is nothing like your usual paranormal story. There’s laughter, swooning, teasing, adventures, and a completely unseeable twist. I absolutely loved this story!!

First, thank you to Book Sirens for giving me access to this book. I received an advanced review copy for free from them, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
Second, I LOVED the idea behind this story. This isn't a spoiler (not really) to say the premise of there being so much magic in the world but nobody taking advantage of it for so long leading to an explosion of magic and mass transformations into magical creatures is... . But the execution of the love story within this setting, not so much. The characters felt wooden and two dimensional. There were certain plot points that made no sense. And the resolution felt a little (though not overly) deus ex machina. Maybe this wouldn't have been such an issue for me if the book hadn't taken itself quite so seriously. Or if there'd been a bit more on-page heat.
Finally, that 4 stars is really 3.5 rounded up. Fun story and I did finish it, which says a lot. Would even be willing to read something else from this author. Just feel kind of meh about the story itself.
In the beginning of the book, Dead Sexy made me feel like I was reading a sequel of a book I had never read before. The first few chapters left me a little lost and confused, but it soon became obvious (to me at least) that it was supposed to be that. After I got over my slight confusion, I really enjoyed reading the book.
I didn’t fully care for the excessive secretiveness from David because it felt like the common “miscommunication” trope to further the plot. But otherwise, I like David as a character. He is kind, handsome, and protective of Cassie. Cassie is a badass with a slightly unconventional style for a monster hunter. She very clearly cares about her friends, takes her job seriously without being too serious.
Overall, the book was a fun read with building tension and twists that made me gasp or laugh out loud. Even though I figured out quickly who was the, hmmm, culprit, I was completely shocked by the how and the why.

I found this book through BookSirens, but it was already out, so I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited.
I really liked the premise of this book - there was a big magical event a number of years ago, and many people were transformed into all different kinds of supernatural creatures. Basically, whatever you believe you could be. One of the possibilities is to become a zombie after you die. You can be sentient while your unfinished business is unfinished, but eventually you become a zombie like we're used to seeing in books and movies. Here's where our heroine comes in. She takes care of problem zombies, and she's hired to look for and "take care of" a man's brother. Romance and insecurities and shenanigans ensue. It's wrapped up pretty well at the end.
This is an original story and I very much enjoyed the premise. In this world an event called the Cataclysm transformed the world with magic. Some people were transformed as well.
Cassie is a tracker of the non living. She is very good at her job and has built a reputation for herself. If only her personal life was as good. A curse was placed on her which affects any romantic relationship she has.
Her new client, David, is very attractive to her, which means she needs to keep him at arm’s length. David wants her to track his brother who returned home to Scotland months after his fatal accident.
As Cassie and David look for clues explaining why Gideon, David’s twin, returned, they uncover more of a mystery than they anticipated. They also grow closer, but there is that pesky curse to contend with.
A world of zombies, transformations, curses and zombie hunters. That’s Cassie, zombie hunter extraordinaire. David comes to hire her to track and take down his zombie brother before he can hurt someone again. Only as Cassie begins to unravel the mystery surrounding Gideon’s fatal accident and why he’s returned as a zombie, zombies have to have a reason, she finds more going on at the castle David’s family owns and runs. And if she can just keep her heart from getting more and more attached to the sexy man that hired her, she might leave the castle before her curse takes it toll on another one of her romantic partners. But magic and David have other plans in store for Cassie. It’s a well written, engaging, funny story. One I thoroughly enjoyed. I’ll be looking for more books from this author for sure! Dead Sexy is the story of Cassie Jones, head of a Post-Mortem Tracking Agency - hey, it’s a better living than fighting the undead!
Unfortunately, whilst being amazingly professional and owning a kick-ass wardrobe, Cassie is cursed with a capital “C” - meaning any guy she falls for will eventually end up betraying her. A major bummer, made worse when the mouthwatering David MacDuff hires her for a job…
Cassie is a sassy and confident character, which is always a great one to read. She’s confident in her abilities and isn’t afraid to go up against the men she encounters. David is the drool-worthy love interest, with looks that stop traffic and a decent family estate backing him. Again, it was such a refreshing read to have the main roles slightly reversed and have the female lead calling the shots.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it made me laugh and I was so busy being invested in the love story that I missed solving the whodunnit! I will definitely be recommending this to others!
This was a fun read! Cassie, the main character, is sassy and badass, and even though I don't think her excuse for wearing stilettos is in any way credible (unlike the idea of a Cataclysm and zombies and curses and magic, ha), and she's way more into fashion than I am, I liked her.
The story isn't as linear or obvious as I expected, and it's told in a way that is quite a page turner. These characteristics combined to make it all the more enjoyable through to the very end. And I found the end to be a soft surprise & very elegant.
I didn't love the way the romance developed, with its hot and colds that seemed too extreme even in the context of the genre, but that's a relatively minor detail given how much I appreciated the narrative overall.
I'd read more from this author!

This book is based after a cataclysm event where almost everyone changes to supernatural. It has all types of supernatural species. The book has slow burn love interest, fighting and thriller scenes. Cassie is a badass zombie hunter who meets her client and feels an instant attraction. However she is cursed. David her love interest keeps you on your toes as you feel like it’s too good to be true. At times you question his character and wait for the shoe to drop. However it was still a very cute love story.
I gave it at 3 1/2 because at times the storyline felt rushed and unfinished. I just wish it was clearer. The story sometimes felt unfocused and too many things happening that didn’t really bring the ending to a conclusion. I would still recommend to anyone wanting a light quick read who is looking for happily ever after endings.

This book is about zombie-hunting Cassie. She is cursed that every guy she is dating will leave her. In walk the perfect guy as her client, with a case in Scotland where she has to stay at his castle. The attraction is over the moon, but she tries to stay away at, at the same time she is trying to find out if his brother (the zombie) is the one hurting people around them.
This book had a great background for why there is paranormals (a cataclysm) that could have been explained more. There were also side characters that seems awesome we only got a peek at that I would love to se more of (Ash, Nim, etc). But overall a fastpaced, easy-read cosy mystery that I really enjoyed!
Following the Cataclysm - a worldwide event that manifested supernatural phenomena, people have been transformed by magic. Enter Cassie, a love-cursed zombie tracker. She's been hired by the ultra-wealthy MacDuffs to locate their now zombified eldest son, Gideon. The only catch is Gideon's twin brother, the completely un-supernatural David.
While I loved the idea of exploring this world (and I do hope it becomes a series), the plot and characters could have been fleshed out more. As it was, it was a good light read and fans of Mary Janice Davidson may also enjoy this book.

Thank you Booksirens for this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This was such an interesting story and I honestly loved it more than I even thought I would. It has such an interesting take on zombies and supernatural beings in general. I loved the sizzling chemistry between Cassie and David. David hires Cassie to help his brother and it's a very sad situation.( I don't want to give too much away!)Cassie wishes she could give David a chance but there's a big reason why she keeps pushing him away.
The idea of a huge event that changes most of humanity into different supernatural beings seems awesome however I felt like the execution of the story was rather disjointed. The explanation of the curse on the main female character Cassie was quick and left us wondering what the curse exactly was. I felt like the slow burn for the romance was way too much of a slow burn and was wrapped up too much in the Curse. I did like that it had a HEA and that the book leaves itself open for potential future books, I just wish it didn't feel so rushed and disjointed.

I enjoyed this book. There were definitely a couple twists and turns I didnt expect. If you are a spicy romance reader, this was a 1/5 peppers. It took a little to help understand the realm, but it was good. I liked that the strong character was the woman and I wish I could find stilettoes as comfortable as she does.
This story was well written and the mystery side of it kept me guessing till the very end. Cassie's story was unique and I enjoyed the various magical creatures sprinkled throughout the book.
The author did an excellent job of playing with my emotions and I couldn't wait to find out what Cassie & David's fate would be!

I read this book as part of a 12 book challenge for 2023, “ Read 12 books from 12 different authors recommended by 12 friends”.
Romance isn’t my genre and but for the challenge I wouldn’t have chosen this book but I’m so glad I read it. It’s a fun and witty read. It would be great to read around the Halloween season. I really liked the main character. The book provided enough twists and turns to keep me interested all the way to the Dead End!!
When I started the book my initial feeling was that it was immature and superficial and I wasn't going to like how it would roll out. However the more I read the more the story drew me in. The intrigue developed in unexpected ways and had me wrapped up right up until the end. This was a nice read ad I loved how it wrapped up. The main character Cassie took a while to warm up to. She was, in a word, vain. That aside, the story was entertaining. There's zombies, a curse, and a romance. My favorite part is when David keeps insisting that "magic can't bring anything out of a person that isn't already there." I found this story to be a good for me read Cassie and David really brought it to life. I enjoyed everything about it as it is my cup of tea to say. The world building is Original and I Loved this Book!!! No Spoilers! I received an ARC from BookSirens and I am Leaving this Totally Honest Review because I Choose to and Loved the Story!!!
This was a decent read. I enjoy a strong female lead and a few unexpected twists. I’m still a little confused if the beginning of Chapter 13 was real life or a dream because it didn’t seem to fully fit into the story but overall I liked it.
Side note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review
This is a really easy read - light romance, light humour, light fantasy. Would have loved each of those to be more intense so that I didn't want to put the book down, but as it was it was still well written and a good story.
Love the world that was created and the many different characters. I laughed out loud several times while reading. The characters are relatable and even though fantasy, they are still so real. Get this if you want to finish a book saying that was fun!
Romance, Threats, and a Mystery: This was a cute, fast read that's light on actual steam but a fun plot nonetheless. The novel is intriguing and there is a mystery to unravel.

I struggled throughout this book. I think the idea behind this book is really clever - a cataclysmic event causes some people born afterwards to be paranormal. But, this book was a bit messy for me to really put it all together. It starts off with David, the main character, asking Cassie, the main female character, to help him find his zombie brother and prove he isn't a killer. He leaves out some details and Cassie struggles to get past them in order to fall in love with him. So, she's constantly pulling David in and pushing him away throughout the book and it just got annoying. The reason she insists she can't have a relationship with Davis is because she's been cursed and can't trust a man. Throughout the book, Cassie is trying to solve a murder mystery while trying to find the brother. I guessed the murderer as soon as the character was introduced; not sure why, but it stuck out. There was also an annoying character that was in the book in many scenes, but added nothing to the storyline.
I would have liked to have had a little more introduction to the cataclysm and why there are so many paranormals being born. I would have liked more interaction with her friend Ash, so we could understand more of Cassie's feelings of insecurity in men hurting her, so that we could connect more with her.
I did really like David from the start. He was a solid character and remained true throughout the book. And, it was nice to see a HEA at the end.
This was a cute and fun read, with great chemistry. While there were a few areas I would have liked a little more clarity (like the details of the curse), overall it was a satisfying light read.
Finally a book with humour , paranormals and a little bit of action! The whole concept of the story ( transformations, etc) was new and the ending was unexpected! Yes!!!
