Interior designer Hadley Sutton has an eye for style, an ear for gossip, and a nose for trouble.
Hadley couldn’t be happier in Darlington Hills. She’s loving her new town, new friends, and new job staging rooms for photo shoots at a trendy home furnishings company—even though her boss is quick-tempered and rude. Everything seems perfect until Hadley finds a body in her boss’s kitchen and all eyes turn to him as the likely suspect.
Faced with the possibility of losing her job if her boss ends up behind bars, she starts asking questions around town in hopes of proving his innocence. But when Hadley’s questions strike a hot nerve with someone, she finds herself dodging escalating threats—all while working furiously to meet deadlines for her company’s first-ever printed catalog, prepping for the town’s annual Flower Festival, and navigating budding friendships with two town flirts, one of whom happens to be her boss’s brother.

As in the first book of this series, I had so many who could be the murderer. Don't you love it when the author is so clever and keeps you guessing?
This was a tad slow in parts and not as fast moving as Book 1, but still very enjoyable. Clean story with no swear words or even kisses. But, there is some romance building between two H's.
The ending was amazing and one of the few times I will say an epilogue was not needed. Story is suspenseful, twists aplenty, murder and wonderful main and secondary character's.
This is the second book in the Hadley Home Design Cozy Mystery series and I loved it. It had everything I love about cozy mysteries. I started reading this book with a bit of skepticism since the first one was so obvious. But since there were a lot of things I liked about the first one, I wanted to give this series another chance. I am so glad I did.
I really like the protagonist, Hadley. She's intelligent but risks her life at times. Perhaps not the wisest, but I still love her. Hadley relocated to Darlington, VA after her boyfriend broke up with her. She landed a job staging rooms for photo shoots and loves her job even though her new boss can be a bit cantankerous and rude. Everything is going great until Hadley finds a dead body in her boss' Kitchen. Of course, her boss, Vincent, is the prime suspect.
Hadley is afraid she will be out of a job if her boss goes to prison, so she works hard to prove her boss' innocence. Her investigation leads her into some dangerous situations that could get her killed. As she gets closer to someone, could he be the killer!
This book takes the readers on a bit of a roller coaster ride with a series of twists and turns to find a killer. I really thought I had the killer figured out, but there is a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. This is the type of mystery I love.
If you love a cozy mystery in a small town with a fun-loving protagonist, quirky characters, pets, and twists and turns to find a killer, you will love this book.
I'm glad I read both these books. This is the first time I read a cozy mystery, and both books were interesting, with a good mystery to try to solve. Hadley is a smart woman, and she put the pieces together before I could figure it out. The author tells a good story, one that keeps moving and keeps you guessing. I would like to read more from this author.
I had high hopes for this second book in the Hadley Home Designs series; however, the book seemed to be written in a rush. It was sloppy - many grammatical errors and details that just didn’t make sense. The new heartthrob was an eye roll and took up too much of the storyline. I just wanted him to be guilty so that his character wouldn’t continue to the next book. Will I read the 3rd book in the series? Maybe but it’s not a definite like I felt after the 1st.
Another well written murder mystery with lots of twist and turns. Hedley is right in the middle of this crime and will have to prove that her boss is not the murderer as she is worry about losing her job if he goes to jail. There are lots of suspect to choice from. I love how Emily is able to make it look like it so many different people without let it out too soon. I would recommend this book to all my friends and anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery.
This is a fun second in series. Hadley works hard at her interior design job, and doesn't have to try at all to get mixed up in murder investigations. A man is mistakenly killed, Hadley realizes it, and starts asking questions. My number one question is who will end up as her boyfriend?
Oh, how easily we can be swayed to come to conclusions that get us into trouble! Hadley was one smart cookie once she got on the right page. Murdering the wrong person sent her down the right path with lots of twists and turns to get to the final answer. It did almost get her killed too, but she persisted until the correct person was shown in their true light!
This is a solidly entertaining mystery with a spunky protagonist and her likable aunt, friends, and potential love interests. It’s set in a small town. And-she’s a decorator-who wouldn’t enjoy those tips! I read the first in this series one night and immediately moved on to read the second. Enjoyable!
The character growth was nicely handled from the first book to this one, and honestly, the villain of the story took me by complete surprise! Well done!
The premise of the mystery was refreshing, a nice spin on the usual cozies out there. Definitely NOT a cookie cutter kind of book. I can't wait to read the next one!
The second in this series was of the Hadley Home Design Cozy Mysteries. Hadley working to set up an upcoming home decor items catalogue is disrupted when her employer is attacked and she pursues his attacker. Combined with a romance and finding the killer keeps Hadley working long into the hours of the night Another great read by Emily Overton.
Hadley finds herself involved in a second murder. Like the author's first book in the series, this story moves along nicely and builds up to a fine finale. Can't wait for book 3!
Another fun read. Hadley gets in more fixes designing home interiors than most police detectives. This time it was her boss being set up for a murder he didn't commit. Lots of red herrings and a good reveal at the end. Looking forward to book three.
I love this series! Hadley is so real facing the same questions, fears, self-doubt, and excitement we all face. The plot contains surprises to the very end! Emily Oberton is now one of my all-time favorite authors!
This high quality cozy mystery was such a pleasure to read, loaded with all the luxuries and loathes of interior designing and buildingher own business. I'll definitely read more books in this series.
I read the first book and enjoyed it but this one didn’t click with me. Too many incidents that weren’t handled in a realistic way. I got fed up about half way through and jumped to the end.
I love this series! Just like book one, book two kept me guessing and I was wrong every time....lol. Hadley could really get herself in a pickle when she least expects it. Great read you won't be disappointed. Now time to move on to book 3!
