A woman hunted. A monster broken. A desire that may just consume them both.
RHIANNE
With my car dead, and no way home, an inconvenient night quickly takes a turn for the worse.
I'm pursued deep into the woods, my heart pounding with unbridled fear, and I'm certain this is it. I'm going to die out here, in the cold and dark. Just when I think all hope is lost I'm saved by the most unexpected rescuer.
My savior is a monster.
I don't know whether I should be terrified or enchanted. Hidden in the shadows, his bright red eyes lure me, drawing me in until I can no longer resist him.
I suddenly find myself at the mercy of my new fierce and vicious protector. I wonder if he's truly the monster I've made him out to be? Heaven help me, my inhibitions are falling away and I'm finding myself becoming more and more tangled in this creature's web of seduction...
Only, there's something else.
Something more.
He's keeping a secret, he's holding back something dangerous.
And I just might be the one to set it free...
SEPHTIS
Until that fateful night, I'd fought my desires for so long. I would have stayed away from her if that were possible, but I needed her...
Dark and smooth, captivating and delectable, she is gorgeous, a feast for my senses. My desire for her burns in every fiber of my being, my lust undeniable. She is my every fantasy made real, temptation embodied... The very thought of being her lover is devastating torture.
I'm a monster. She is a human.
I'm dangerous. She is untainted.
But I want her.
My feelings for her are consuming me.
I should stay away from her but the temptation is too great, the need too deep. Rhianne has captured my heart, and now the threads of our fates are tied, she is bound to me as I am to her.
But I run from my past, from the darkness that once held me captive. It’s something I cannot escape. Rhianne is my salvation, my light in the dark, but I may just be her undoing.
She doesn’t know who I am.
My secrets threaten to unravel when she becomes entangled in my web, and the monster inside me threatens to destroy us both.
Within this book is a steamy monster romance, with quite a few triggering and heavy themes. It's a story of dark desire, sizzling chemistry, and a seductive, unbreakable bond that may just have rules of its own.
This is a stand-alone and is intended for Adult audiences, if you like your romances dark, sexy, and forbidden, you prefer monsters over men, a bit of kink, and a guaranteed HEA (albeit a bit twisted) then this book might just ensnare your heart.
dnf @ 10%, i didn’t realize by the cover that the love interest was a spider, i don’t fuck with spiders. i tried but i was itching the whole time 😭 no from me unfortunately
If you’re looking for an adorable read with endearing characters, THIS is the book!
From chapter 1, I was hooked. It’s short, but well written and in the 153 pages, Lexi, endeared the characters to me. I was invested in the HEA of both H|h and they were both worth rooting for. Even the “spider-man.”
It was also hilarious. I got proper amounts of guffaw chuckles out of this. The interactions were heartwarming, the chemistry with the couple jumped off the page and the sex scenes- SIZZLING. Whew!!! These scenes!!! Ms Lexi has a knack for writing erotic scenes and though the bondage (of sorts) was involved multiple times- no scene felt the same. Which is quite impressive when writing an erotic novella.
Did I enjoy it? You bet your sweet bottom dollar that I did! And since I’ve spent the first half of my review talking about great it was, here’s a few things it could definitely have improved upon.
I wanted to know more about Sephtis’ background. I didn’t like that we barely got a view into his story towards the very END of the story. Even then, what we got what very brief and *whispers* (I’m whispering this bit because I liked the story so much that this almost feels blasphemous) - it felt like a lazy cop out. Having his story being so old that there’s no information on them? Boooooo!!!! Lazy!! Especially since this is the first story of this kind of supernatural that I’ve read on. It was refreshing, but I wanted more.
There were definitely some moments where you had to suspend your beliefs in order to enjoy the story. I mean, this is a story about a supernatural being- of course suspending your belief is required for reading. However, some of the situations were a little TOO convenient. Like the finding of the treasure on the trunk, and him ‘adapting’ way too easily for me. With the driving. You didn’t know what a shower was, but suddenly you’re driving down highways and byways? That’s suspicious. *squints eyes*
All in all, I still gave this book 5 stars because it was such a feel good read and with the books I’ve been reading of late, I needed one to pull me from the precipice of poorly written and terrible characters. So yeah, 5stars!!!
Super spicy romance…Would love more books like this by the author. Love full figured WOC in books and this one did not disappoint.
Spoiler alert: * * * * * * Really wish the MMC stayed a monster through most of the book. He spent more time as a human so it felt less like a monster romance and more like a monster shifter.
How?...I.... Y'all I want to rewrite an eloquent detailed review but I'm rather stunned because I enjoyed this...a lot. But I HATE spiders...detest them. The thought that anyone could write a monster romance featuring a spider precludes me. Somehow Lexi Esme has done it and done it well. I loved the FMC and MMC (dear lord I like a spider). The spice was great the plot was great and I loved how it ended. Lexi Esme got me to read a spider romance. I think I need that on a t shirt. 😅
**I want to note, I did NOT realize the MMC was a spider on the cover at first**
Dnf 68% in It read poorly and it was plain boring.
Insta love and mate's bond is fun when it's done well, MC's had no inner monologue or some rationale, at first the MMC had an old way of speaking as if he was alienated from civilization for long but as soon as he turns up to the FMC's home he becomes modern and just knew stuff like using appliances and driving... No tv involved, no FMC coaching him through it, nothing.
Interracial monster romance... what a unique and tantalizing concept for a story! I was VERY skeptical to read this story because, to me, it sounded weird af. Esme blew me away with this book! My only gripe is that it's too short- I want more!! Possibly in the future, Esme can give us a series of these monsters with woc. I feel this is definitely a niche genre and I would read them all.

Look I don’t fuck with spiders. That’s a known fact. But I’d fuck this spider.
This book was so sweet and fun (and hot) to read. And despite the fact that I’m spiritually against spiders (the bug), I was soooo into this romance. The love was instant but I liked the FMC & MMC together and loved their chemistry. The tension and buildup to the spice was great and the spice itself was HOTTT. This reminded me of a grownup Twilight (that is the highest of compliments lol).
The FMC was so cute and likeable and a well-structured character for such a short story. The MMC is a man-spider. Not spider-man… don’t get it twisted. He was so cute and pussy-whipped in the best way. And he had a monster dick who knew where the clit was which was a plus lol.
This was a super short read but I got what I came for: an adorable, spicy monster romance with characters I liked.
Side note: shoutout to the author, Lexi who drew this amazing cover like this is gorgeous👏🏼
[EN] I know this book only has like 160 pages and therefore the story needs to happen quickly, especially considering that the main characters didn’t know each other at the beginning, but even so, I was shocked to see Rihanne falling in love with Sephtis out of nowhere!! The first intimate moment between the couple made me so uncomfortable because it happened after he bit her with an aphrodisiac venom that kind of incapacitated her - to distract her from the fact that he wasn’t going to reveal his secrets - and, for me, she hadn't the capacities to consent after that. I think Rihanne was so dumb at the beginning, not realizing that Sephtis didn’t eat human food, even after seeing his pit full of human bodies, and ignoring everything that he didn’t tell her… like hello? Start asking questions and demand answers!!! Despite all that, I was curious enough to finish the book, so…
I'm still in shock that I actually liked this book. First, I am terrified of spiders. I mean frozen in fear terrified. So for me to even THINK of reading a book where the hero is half man half spider you know it's captured my attention. And wow was this book on a whole new level. Rhianne and Sephtis story was oddly enjoyable. I actually found myself rooting for them to get their HEA. Despite the gruesome stuff in the beginning I still liked this book. I gave it 5 ⭐ cause any book that grabs and holds my attention with one of my extreme fears deserves it. This author is new to me. But I just might check out her catalog. The excerpt from her book "Wet Dream" caught my attention. So I might check that one out. If you can handle a love story that's very unique and different. And if you don't mind the whole spider thing, then I highly recommend this book. It'll surprise you.
This ticked all my boxes. All of them. It had horror, romance, erotica… it had a rawness to it that I really loved. I ALWAYS need more spidery heroes. There are NOT ENOUGH OF THEM OUT THERE! Will be purchasing after I return the KU version.
I have mixed feelings about this. In my opinion, there was too much smut and too little plot. This book also sort if read like a thriller/horror which was disconcerting to say the least. I don't know, I really wanted to like this book, but there were just too many things I didn't. I was really looking forward to getting more information on Sephtis and his abilities, but that didn't happen. Another element was that I had first had the impression that this was a Sapphic romance and I was really looking forward to that but it turns out the artwork on the cover is just a really beautiful man. If anyone has any Sapphic romance or Sapphic monster romance recs, feel free to hand em over!
I will first admit, it was the art on the cover that drew me in. And having read CM Nascosta's story, I took a chance on this. There is a dark tone to each of their lived and this is revealed in depth, over time. So much emotion and felt a touch of tears as Sephtis finally tells Rhianne, his story. I loved this book, for all it's emotion; the two characters were meant to be and overcame what life threw their way to get their HEA. Thank you Lexi, for a wonderful read. Now onto your next book! :)
I can’t believe I read a book with a spider lover and it was amazing! I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t think I would make it though but I’m sure glad I did. If you have a fear of spiders but this but calls to you read it. You will forget he’s one. And then when you remember you won’t care!!
Whelp, I guess I have a thing for spidermen. I really enjoyed Sephtis and Rhianne's chemistry and there was 🤌🏻 such good steam. Like I don't know what it is exactly but the way Lexi Esme writes female pleasure is just so GOOD. I liked that the fated mates angle was that they were instantly married, I thought that was cute as shit 💜
I like the characters, Rhianne especially. Steamy scenes were well done. The idea of the book is great, but the execution and world building need some strengthening.
This was a quick and easy monster romance between a human and a spider shiftery type creature.
It was fast paced, fated mates (the only instalove I'll ever allow), and ultimately a HEA. I wish this had been a full length novel as we didn't really get an opportunity to get to know the characters very deeply.
But the hero and heroine were sweet, conflict was resolved at a reasonable pace. I have to admit, I didn't see that conflict coming. The little plot twist from the hero's past? Yikes 👀 Jaw dropped.
I really enjoyed every minute of this. This has been sorely missing in the romance genre. Write more of these, you got a new fan in me. This had everything. The combo of my favorite genres, romance & horror. I need more of this because it's almost impossible to find stories like this with black heroines.
The way Lexi writes its incredible! She captivates so much in a little story. There's so much Heart emotion and spice but also layers in so much healing and I'm thankful that this is my 1st from her because I can't wait to read the rest. Honestly one of my favorite monster romances!
Wow, I'm soo glad this book came up as a suggestion in my que. I've been looking for something different and spicy to read, If you love spicy, monster romance, this book is for you! Now to my next book by Lexi Eseme
- Spider-ish lover - BDSM; bondage, shibari with web - Light blood play, sort of, feeding...think vampires but more fun - Human and monster form
I don't very often read an entire book in a single day, even when they are as short as this one was, but I was up until about 2am completely sucked into this. Yes, it's a monster romance with a very monstrous love interest, but the story was so good and so emotional. I was completely invested into this book!
Rhianne gets a ride home with her boss, who ends up being one of those men who can't take no for an answer. After escaping into the woods and both of them tumbling into a pit she meets and is saved by Sephtis. He practically shoves her out the metaphorical door, then shows up magically in her home claiming she is his "Amata" or "desired wife".
It is a mix of slow-burn and love-at-first-sight, there is a connection and an attraction but a very reluctant one and it takes a little while to heat up. For a novella length book anyways. But once it heats up it gets hot, so very hot. But it's also sort of emotional, I found myself tearing up a little bit as I read and I don't think it's just the fact I was reading at 1am. It was so good. I loved this book.
If you’re looking for a Monster Romance this is NOT it!! The beginning started out great. There was so much potential! I was so excited to figure out how the FMC and MMC were going to progress. Major turn off when the FMC just summons him out of thin air. I wish we could’ve instead seen him have an irresistible pull to her after saying his name rather than pulling him out the Author’s ass. All the descriptions of the MMC’s character and body all to go to waste by giving him a human form. No build up, just poof he’s human looking now with a big dick I guess?? Boring. The cover art is absolutely beautiful!! Wish we saw more of that. DNF at %20.
If you’re looking for an actual Spider Monster Romance I HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest reading Ensnared (The Spider’s Mate #1-#3) by Tiffany Roberts! Great Characters and World Building! Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Despite the gorgeous cover, I'm afraid this just wasn't very good. I think that the author had an interesting idea, but it was not well executed. While I liked the characters, they were not well-developed. It's more tell than show. The plotting is inconsistent and herky-jerky; scenes and plot progressions do not flow well from one to the next, etc. It's plenty spicy, especially if you are into light bondage kind of scenes, and I liked the ending. But, all in all, this was a flop for me.
I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. By the second chapter I was absolutely in love with the characters. It’s funny, sweet and very steamy. An easy quick read for a Monday night.
I can wait for the author to write more books. I’m downloading her other book now ( the 1st chapter at the end of the kindle book).
Wasn't entirely sure I would like this book with my fear of spiders, but I did. The author really made me love the characters. I'd love to see maybe a bigger novel done with his world involved. There's so much potential to take this story farther.
