Audrey Popkin realises she has bitten off more than she can chew when she gets embroiled with icy-cool banker, Sterling Foster. His ideas about how to have fun are more bizarre than any English Literature graduate should have to put up with! One morning she packs her bags and walks out of his luxury Florida apartment, heading back to Washington DC in search of a more regular deal with a more regular guy. But, for a girl like Audrey, this is not as easy as it sounds. When Patrick Dugan, the charismatic owner of an old-world bar with a talent for mixing the smoothest cocktails, fixes Audrey in his sights, some strange alliances are about to be formed. Within a week Audrey talks her way into a job at Patrick's bar and a room in the apartment he shares with a drag queen jazz singer called Basil - who has a great line in platinum wigs. Audrey soon realises that Patrick is not all he seems. Why is he pretending to be gay? And what is he covering up for his father, a pillar of the local community? Audrey is so besotted with the enigmatic barman that she doesn't realise they are connected by a mutual adversary - a steely, cold-hearted son of a bitch who will take them all down if he doesn't get his little plaything back. A fast-paced tale of everyday, amoral folk and the delicious cocktails they drink!

I'm a USA Today bestselling author who LOVES the hot stuff, both to read and to write. My favorite obsessions are all things coffee, almost everything on HGTV, and dreaming up new stories.

Brain candy. Light, shivery, raunchy fun. Set in Washington, DC. One of my favorite Black Lace-series novels of all time. Got this autographed copy many moons ago on an excursion to the Romance Writers of America convention dealers' room, when the convention was held in DC. Hands-down, best random find, evar. The characters are interesting and layered, there are some hot love scenes involving girls, guys, and both, and the scenery is fun and alluring (especially for those of us who live in the DC area!). I've held onto my copy (instead of selling/donating/trading) to be able to re-read it from time to time.

Couldn't get past sample.
Seemed more erotica than romance.

Like most Holly books the plot exists to bring the reader from sex scene to even more exotic sex scene...

I personally love Emma Holly. No one writes a better sex scene. She adds little details that really help you grasp either the emotions or storyline or sex occurring.

I know less than nothing about the kink community, but even I could tell this was better than 50 shades. Not every heroine gets to happily (with the exception of Sterling) bed nearly every character in the novel, male and female.

Cute, light erotica and Easy BDSM 101. I was entertained by Sterling, who is classic Say My Name Dom *whipcrack* and essentially the example of what not to be and who not to sleep with.

A well written book and a good read if you enjoy the erotic submissive genre.

This is a quirky little book. The characters are not as fully developed as I would like but that doesn't stop this book being fun and a rollicking naughty read. Audrey gets lured away from her friend Tommy while on hols in Florida, just before they get it on, by Sterling a seemingly debonair older man, but in reality a mean spirited Dom. She doesn't wish to continue losing herself with Sterling, heads back to Tommy, has a bit of slap and tickle, "finds" Patrick a Dom with a softer touch, throw in a dash of Basil and she enjoys herself big time, then gets a bit unsure so....hellooo Cynthia & don't forget good ol' Tommy too. Phew, it's now back to Patrick and some more intersting fun to come, plus add in a cute kitty cat, a dash more Basil and Voila! - it's Velvet Glove. So, there is lots of sex, and lordy lord can Audrey get into it! Lighter BDSM, anal, M/M, girl on girl D/s, voyeurism it's got it all really, so be aware of it you are offended by any of these things, happily I'm not so I had fun with it.

An oldie, but a smexy goodie!
Come on people, the hero sounds just like David Gandy...with an Irish brogue and love of stray bottlefed kittens....
and chains, quirts, blindfolds, and stray transvestite singers.
Just like regular people ;)
Love me some Emma Holly. Such a sorry-not-sorry pleasure read!!

I was disappointed when I finished this book. Everything was too neatly tied up. Also, seemed like it was more of a cross between porn and erotica. It seemed sometimes like the sex was there only because it had been too many pages since the last scene.

This book was well written, as are every one of Emma Holly's works. However, I did not find it quite as interesting as Personal Assets or Strange Attractions.
