This book is a tour de force of nutritional information and wholesome recipes for creating a solid foundation to support your hormones. The early chapters provide a thorough explanation and examination of hormones and the role of nutrition to help support hormonal health. This part is very accessible and covers a vast array of aspects including menstruation, specific food nutrition charts, and general hormone balancing recipes.
A hormone quiz in one of the early chapters helps you identify which challenges you might be facing, such as high estrogen. The results then help to guide you towards the chapters and recipes which will be most relevant to your particular struggles.
The recipes are uncomplicated, with straight-forward ingredients and easy to follow instructions, combined with a short introduction which provides information on the nutritional aspects of key ingredients. The photos of the dishes encourage me all the more to try them. At the end of the book there are even meal plan charts you can use for the different stages of your cycle. There are suggestions for alternative ingredients if you are vegetarian or vegan or have dietary restrictions.
I was concerned the book was only for those in the prime of their menstruating years and would not cover women’s health in perimenopause and menopause, but this concern was swiftly dispelled when both were mentioned early on in the introduction. There is even a menopause meal plan included.
Having it read it thoroughly once, I find myself drawn to re-read it again and again to really absorb all of the information Madeline has provided. This book has encouraged me to gain a solid understanding and foundation for my own meal nutrition and know how to deal with any hormonal issues as they arise.
If you are struggling to find a way through the confusion of how to support your body when you have symptoms of hormonal imbalance, then I would heartily recommend this book. It is a gateway to not only learning more about hormonal health, but provides a wealth of information to support your own body back to hormonal balance.
I wrote this review based on an advance reading copy that the author sent me.

I received a copy of this book through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review.
The strength of this book is there's a lot of information! There are helpful diagrams and explanations of different parts of the menstrual cycle, what hormone imbalances look like, and meal plans. It's a pretty thorough guide to help understand what is happening at different phases and how to nurture your body. The book also talks about pregnancy and menopause.
I was hoping for more of a recipe book. The book has some recipes, but it's probably a third of the book. There are only a few pictures and the recipes are broken down by issue - low estrogen, low progesterone, high thyroid, etc. and some of the recipes are lists of things you can combine to make meal bowls, dressings, etc. There's also no vegan and very few vegetarian options in this book. The author talks about how most plant-based diets lack adequate nutrients (which is increasingly less true as more plant-based options are available) so if you have any kind of dietary restrictions there are very few recipes you can use. There's also a big focus on meat as well as eating organic which made me feel like the author was focused on health food buzz words. I also wish some of these recipes were just more practical, there's not a lot of snacks or meals for on the go or even suggestions on how to meal-prep these things if you're not at home to cook every single meal. The book is also very focused on healing through food, with no acknowledgement that sometimes medication is the best treatment.
This is an informative book and while not all of it is for me it has some helpful information.

Imagine my surprise when I came home from grocery shopping, laden with fresh asparagus - one of my favourite foods of spring - to see my Hormone Type Cookbook had arrived. I opened it at random and was treated to a recipe for a Thyroid-loving Lunch Bowl (p 182) that included asparagus so I immediately made it and it was delicious.
As someone who believes in food as medicine I was intrigued by the title of this cookbook and wanted to learn more, not only about the different ways our hormones affect us in different phases of their lives, but how to manage them without using allopathic treatments.
This book is full of fascinating and hard-to-find information about hormones, as well as lots of recipes and meal plans to manage different hormonal imbalances. The recipes are easy to follow and also include cooking tips and tricks.
If you or someone you love suffers from painful periods or debilitating hormonal symptoms, I recommend this book and the unique wisdom that Madelinie MacKinnon shares here - and with such passion!

This cookbook is great for anyone wanting to combat hormonal issues using their diet. I particularly love how you can take a test to determine what issues you have based on your symptoms and then there is a guide to tell you which chapter to go to. Each chapter dives into each hormone issue indicating signs of the imbalances, causes, foods to eat, and foods to avoid. The recipes look delicious and not overly complicated which is a plus for our busy lives. The ingredients are also easy to find and most likely in your pantry. I have a feeling this cookbook will live on my counter and not in my cupboard!

This book addresses so many issues women have and it is so great that these issues can be talked about without judgement, offering support and valuable information to really understand what's going on inside our bodies. As someone going through menopause, I found Madeline's book to be profoundly beneficial to understanding what my body is going through, and provides such great recipes to support my symptoms. My favorite recipe so far is the pasta salad with pumpkin seed pesto and the roasted butternut squash and quinoa salad with tahini dressing!

Amazing book….helped me on my start to getting my hormones in check, eating better and appreciate new food! Great recipes and has made me try new things I really like now. Some of my favorites are: Maple-glazed Temph bowl with roasted squash, Blueberry Cardamon Smoothie (helps with hot flashes), roasted beet hummus, roasted cauliflower lentil bowl, sweet potato breakfast hash (whole family loves this) and the no-bake almond bliss balls and I could go on….oh the mung bean avocado salad with pomogrante is sooo refreshing and yummy!

Easy to read. Gives a good foundation for period health and hormone balance, more information than just recipes. Recipes are a bit on the bland and boring side, definitely healthy, but they do offer different ways of incorporating ingredients that promote hormone balance. I’ve tried a couple and they’re fairly easy and basic. Some ingredients can be a bit obscure and expensive; may need to get from a health food store. Overall, would recommend as an easy intro to learning about hormone health; gives a good starting off point.

So much more then your typical cookbook!
With so much information out there now on hormone health, it is so refreshing to have a cookbook that is laid out in this way. Not only is there a ton of information to help you understand your hormones and why it is important that we finally learn this, but the cookbook is so clear to help you balance your hormone imbalance. I love love love this book. It is one of my favourites now.

This book is phenomenal! It is both informative and fun. Rather than endlessly searching through pages of the internet for recipes and ideas for optimal health catered specifically to my lifestyle and dietary needs I was able to find the individual chapters I needed and meal plan accordingly. This book doubles as an educational manual for hormone balance and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for solutions for hormone balance, stress management, and meal prep!

This book teaches you everything there is to know, not just about eating safe with endometriosis, pcos, estrogen dominance, but also how to promote a healthy lifestyle to keep it altogether. It gives me ideas for how to plan my meals depending on my issue so I don't have to keep guessing. It's so convenient to make a hormone-friendly recipe when you know it tastes good already!
